This action is taking place exactly a year [in real world time anyway] after the Thumpley sister's received their abbreviated lesson in self-defense. This spanking first appeared in the papers on April 13, 1958. Trish Haddon is the adult daughter of the world's richest man. She has convinced her dad to buy the contract of heavyweight fighter Ben Bolt. Her dad pays 1 million dollars for 51% of Ben's contract which his friend Spider sells to Mr. Haddon without Ben's knowledge. Trish Haddon is given control over Ben's boxing career but her real aim is to make the champ her boyfriend. No doubt Ben would be open to a relationship with the beautiful heiress but instead of charming Ben she plays the spoiled bad-tempered brat and causes Ben Bolt to take the obviously needful step of giving her shapely bottom a heavyweight spanking. The spanking continues on to the following Sunday [April 20, 1958] much to the delight of Ralph the previously abused, but hopefully highly compensated chauffer. Miss Haddon is heard complaining between spanks and finally when Ben has decided she's had enough Trish tosses him out of the limo even as she continues to rub her sore backside.

Ben Bolt seems to be regretful about spanking his new bosses' daughter in the same way Jack Martin had second-thoughts about spanking Joy Beaverduck. Here we see him explaining the situation to a sympathetic Spider his now former-manager, trainer and best friend. Ben says he spanked Trish "but good" it's always nice to have the spankers confirmation as to the severity of the spanking. Spider Haines answers the door and it's not the cops or an irate father [Pell Haddon] as they both expected but Trish Haddon herself, offering the perfect self-description of a woman who deserved a spanking, "A headstrong willful, bad-tempered female." She begs him to forgive her for giving him every good reason to spank her.
So how does all this play out over the course of the next several Sundays? Trish Haddon is under the influence of a Swami whom the street-savvy duo of Ben and Spider immediately recognize as a familiar to them con-artist. He has convinced Trish to order Ben to retire from boxing and then charm him into marrying her. In exchange for keeping quite [and not beating him to the proverbial pulp] they convince their old acquaintance to persuade Trish to sell the contract back to Spider and get out of Ben's life - and so she does.

More important research, Phil, answering many questions about this strip we've had for years. I will add this to the page soon, probably during the Christmas holiday season when "business" tends to be slow at CSR.

I remember Big Ben Bolt as a fantasy where a white American was World Heavyweight Champion in the late 1950s.
