Right. By the way, just as an aside my wife's cardiologist prescribed for her a blood thinner called Eliquis. As an Australian aged pensioner, she gets a month's supply for $7. She was stunned to look at the box and see that in the USA its retail price is $92. How do old people in the USA survive?

It's tough. The government's drug policies don't make much sense here in the U.S. Pharmaceutical companies rely on massive taxpayer subsidies for their resserch and development, but they charge people as if they made the scientific advancements themselves. I think the biggest item in their budget is bribes (excuse me, campaign contributions) that they pay to congress.

Some folks say we should get the government even more involved with subsidies for people who depend on those drugs for theit lives. I'd rather go the other way. Take away their privilege to manufacture and market the drugs exclusively. Make them compete on the open market and see where the prices go.

The Federal government subsidises necessary medicines in Australia. If a patient's cost of medication passes a certain amount during the year the cost is dropped further. We also have a Medicare system where you can attend a Bul Billing doctor who takes only what Medicare pays him. Wealthier people often take out private insurance. My brother just spent six months in hospital after a bad fall and was charged nothing. People going to work pay a small subsidy to Medicare. The idea is that it is better to have a healthy workforce rather than people dying because they cannot afford medicine or medical care.

I'm not sure about Jack's parents... I hadn't thought about them until now. But Kaylyn and Jack are going to Australia.

About tne Granny part... not yet.
