Pygophilia

I recently saw Dave Wolfe use that word. It means an attraction to the buttocks.    I looked it up on Google, and, while the word itself doesn't seem to be all that commonly spoken, the thing it describes is quite well known. It can refer to either gender, any orientation, but most often, it's the heterosexual males who are obsessing over female derrieres. According to Wikipedia, there are valid Darwinian reasons for this: The rounded bottom of a woman is usually an indication of high estrogen levels, and therefore, better chances of bearing healthy babies.

It's an interesting word, especially in relation to our topic of beautiful women being targeted for spankings.

Fuller definition is sexual arousement caused by attention to buttocks, close enough.

And then there is that wonderful word "callipygian" meaning beautiful buttocks. Understand there is a Greek statue called Venus Callipygia.

Venus Callypigye is believed to be a copy of an older Greek statue called Aphrodite Kallypigios, as the Venus de Milo is correctly named Aphrodite de Melos.

Venus is the Latin name for Aphrodite.

Interesting discussion, which I didn't have time to follow until now. My own thinking about why men always look at the female backside is that it is the natural product of the need to find a mate: under primitive conditions, the fastest way to determine whether that figure in the distance is male or female would be to look at the waist-to-hips ratio, which in practice means focusing on the hips  . Therefore, the male brain became hard-wired to take a long, hard look at the female fanny and we began to judge a woman's potential as a mate by how full and round it was.

One story is that in the evolution of man humans originally had sex with the man behind the woman. As women developed larger buttocks during the evolution to walking upright this became difficult so men started turning the women over to make access to the vagina simpler.

That may well be true, Willjohn. Certainly at some time in human evolution the species moved away from the rear entry position favored by apes. Now for the $64,000 question: when did spanking evolve?
