Please Give Me Spelling Lessons

old spanking book

"Please Give Me Disipline" [sic] blares the title of this "adult" book, which once upon a time was sold in "adult" bookstores. We remember seeing similar titles many years ago, but didn't buy them, preferring the more visual spanking magazines of the time. Books like these, whether straight porn or pure spanking, were basically sub-literate trash, as we might suspect from the misspelled title here. The writers worked in an office, and they were expected to "write" a book as quickly as they could type (this was, of course, before the word processor had been invented). The publisher would collect the typewritten pages at the end of the work day, leaving only the last one so next morning the writer would know where he had left off the day before. How do we know all this? Don't ask! Suffice it to say you're better off with the spanking fiction available on the internet today.

Having disposed of the book's literary merits, let's take a look at the cover art. The draftsmanship is better than on some of the covers we remember, but the composition suggests the artist was no spanko. Not only is the man spanking with the wrong hand, a common error, he's also lifting the spankee's legs when they should be draped over the knee to produce a nice bend at the waist, which is a strange error. Finally, while we like the use of a paddle, it's rather odd that the stripes on the spankee's bottom are the kind we'd expect to have been left by a cane!

We're not sure where we ran across this, but it may have been on some French-language site.
