Katie should know by now that any time she lends something to one of her useless but very spankable friends, it ends in tears.

Usually involving a spanked arse.

She should know, but she never seems to learn.

For her, and maybe for her disrespectful "friend" too.

Not able to write much, but we're off to a good start (with Katie getting spanked twice, it couldn't be a bad start :D ) and I'm wondering what Katie can do to see that Clorene receives her just desserts.

Do American states still tow cars away for parking offences? In parts of Australia it is regarded the same as car-theft.

Towing Parked Cars

I wish that's the way it was here, Willjohn, but I expect towing cars makes too much money for the cities. In most cases, illegally parked cars are issued citations, but of course there are always abuses by the police, expecially in large cities where "you can't fight City Hall". Sometimes there is at least a specific warning that reads "Tow-away Zone". Another charming tactic for alleged repeat violators is to attach the "boot" to the vehicle so it can't be driven until the owner pays up.

I myself had a legally parked car towed by the Chicago police back in the 80s, then moved across the border to Hammond (Indiana) only to have it towed away there also! It was an older car, and one has the impression the police might not have been so quick to tow a more expensive-looking vehicle even though the owner would presumably be better able to pay the towing fees and impound costs. It was a perfectly miserable experience as the Chicago Police were none too gentle with my car and when I had paid the impound costs, I found they had damaged the transmission linkage and my textbook on Stochastic Processes (I was a grad student in those days) had disappeared. I had to jack it up in the pound, crawl under it in the cold and re-connect the linkage in order to be able to drive it out of there.

Government always needs to be kept on a very short leash, and citizens should have the ability to sue for wrongs inflicted by government agents. This is in fact a principle of the English Common Law that should still apply to America and Australia as daughter countries, but in America the principle has been weakened over the years and I would be surprised if the victim of an illegal tow could sue successfully.

It got ridiculous in the Police Patrol I worked in. Two brothers who ran a security firm got a sideline controlling parking in carparks and apartment blocks. One of the things they did was tow away cars owned by owners of apartments that were parking in visitor parking areas because they had more than one car.

These people complained to the body corporates who got onto the local State Member of Parliament who moved that this practice be made illegal because it was unreasonable. The State Government passed the law that stopped the security company from behaving unreasonably and sent it broke.
The brothers were a pair of smartarses and had it coming for a long time.

I don't know. I've been worried for some time, but because my life is basically a series of disasters, I really haven't even been able to check my mailboxes since May. Today I cleared out my old PMs on this board and actually opened the official Web-Ed mailbox. I didn't see anything from him so I'm going to send him an email myself and hope he's better able to answer mails than I have been.

That's actually the foremost issue here at CSR right now. B00m has really done wonders for us the past few years while I've been preoccupied with an incredible series of pressing problems. (Indeed, right after I began this post, a new plumbing emergency has reared its head so I'm going to have to keep this short and forget about doing anything else until my sewer line is fixed. That's the way my life goes, unfortunately.) He took up a lot of slack with a stream of O. T. Katie misadventures, and his output was so steady I think we can safely assume he wouldn't have been away from this board for so long in the absence of some serious calamity, especially since I did try to contact him via email but received no response.

What it was we can't know, but I will try to investigate further. I don't have a lot to go on - like everyone on the Board, I have access to his email address (in fact, all members can email each other unless someone chooses to hide his email address in the User Control Panel (UCP)) but I don't have his real name or address as we do try to respect everyone's privacy around here.

I'll do my best and let everyone know what I find out.

I echo butch's comments, but I think we have to come to the inevitable conclusion that we have lost another great artist. I cannot believe that Hugo would not have notified us of him leaving the site, if that was his wish

Boom's last entry was in April 2024. To paraphrase Mark Twain I think reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

The Search for B00m - February Update

Post by web-ed »

Just wanted to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about this. I did make a little progress this week with some help from our own D. M. Sherwood, but not much.

B00m's last recorded visit to this board occurred on April 28, 2024, when he posted the most recent O. T. Katie panels. One of the problems now is that the trail has gone cold, largely because at the time it first became apparent that something was wrong, say June-July, I had become seriously ill with some European virus (not Covid) - serious in the sense I was too sick to work. I don't want to exaggerate; it's not like my life was in any danger but my throat and eyes were affected severely enough that along with feeling generally sick I was effectively put out of commission.

Another problem is distance: B00m's last known address is something like 600 miles from here, so it's not like I can just hop in the car, run over there, and knock on the door. I've actually thought about hiring a local private investigator, but I don't have the funds for that, so I've been searching mainly using his physical and email addresses. And of course I'm critically short on time, so pressed by personal matters it's all I can do to get the weekly updates done. But I'll continue the search as best I can and give you all another update probably next month.

Thankyou for your efforts Web Ed, I am sure all of Katie's fans appreciate it. If you have a known location address, perhaps a letter sent might give us some idea of the issues. If you put a return address on the letter and it is sent back then we will have more of an idea to comprehend.
