i can see why you aren't going to post any more different scans of the true brides #16 spanking . it's interesting that most of the time, you are searching for more and better scans and you have so many on this one. i also thought it was interesting that the spanking inside was so awkward with the spanker on one knee and holding the spankee at an impossible angle while on the cover page, the OTK position is pretty good with her solidly over his lap, head down, bottom up and legs kicking. i don't think i understand why they would use 2 different drawings? do you think those are done by different artists? also, what happened to the second spanking panel that you show in your 9/24/2010 update where the spankee is saying "put me down you---you brute! put me down!"? if i understand what you were saying, that panel was missing from the original version and added for a later one??? i'm confused. i am also curious about the spankee's hair in the splash page. the way she is positioned, her hair should be hanging down but instead every hair is perfectly in place. is that just a lot of hair spray or is that just a time saving device used by the artist? .

First, about First Love #17, I can understand that everyone would be a little disappointed. I too would prefer to have a nice OTK scene in the middle of a love story, which is what we expect in a romance comic. Alas, this is all we were able to get this time. Next week we will have a slightly more conventional spanking scene, although it too in a way is part of a special feature and not a regular story.

I'm truly sorry about all the confusion regarding Teen-Age Brides #1/True Brides Experiences #16. The basic problem is that I have never had either a physical copy or a complete set of scans from either book! The latest addition, the full splash from TBE#16, is a scan I found somewhere but without the rest of that book! The other scans are from TAB#1, and I believe Spirit used those for his embellished versions.

As to why they used two different drawings, that was simply the way the writer must have laid out the story - the spanking used in the splash page as well as on the later page. It's the same artist.

In the "Put me down, you brute!" panel, as far as I know it appeared in both versions. The confusion here stems from the fact that Spirit put different pages together into a sort of collage, and that is what I used in that 9/24/2010 update. One spanking panel, the one with the single pain star and the caption reading "I lived a lifetime of agony" appears only in this collage - and I still have no idea what page it came from! Between all these examples, though, I think we've seen every panel in which the spanking is depicted. That's why I probably won't update this page yet again if I finally get my hands on a copy of either book unless there's something truly startling there, like another panel depicting the spanking.

You truly take your spankings from comics seriously there is a lot of confusions in both comics but they both got Great Spankings in them Too bad there wasn`t a lot about spanking in First Love 17 Strange Customs only one can`t say much about making the woman put the spanking stick through her lips afterward but the man does have the right to spanked his wife when needed a custom I think should still be in play today anyway I wish they would have talked more about marriage discipline from around the World Great Comic and loved the Spanking Scene of the Tribal woman What up with the guy crying and promising to never spank his wife again she not complaining the cover page is Hot! good over the knee action that it wasn`t the same in the comic like how he carried her down to spank her in front of her parents Spirit did a good job on this comic ! Yay! Romantic spankings are my favorite!

We revisit a romance comic book spanking from True Brides Experiences #16. We have a new scan of the splash page of this admittedly mediocre story.

It's not one of my favorites, but I'm glad you were able to find a high-resolution scan of the splash panel, along with some more publishing history.

Hmm! I like the way the girl is drawn, but I'm not a big fan of switches... especially when she has to wear the switch afterwards! I'm guessing that the women of the tribe must already have pierced lips, but... EW! Maybe it's so that the man always has his punishment implement close at hand... but still... EW! Here's a modified version of the spanking that has the man using his bare hand on his woman's bare butt.

Next Week: If we can manage to get it together, we begin an exciting new series, Rivals of Humorama, in which we look at some spanking cartoons from Humorama's rival publications. Most of these were inferior to Humorama's best, and there weren't that many of them but they're all interesting and they do include the oldest known (at this time) secretary spanking cartoon. first off, the spanking in popular teen-agers #14 was a good story as well as having good art . i think all of us here at CSR love a story where a headstrong young brat gets a good spanking . btw, i couldn't help but notice that our spankees name is Carla Bartly when perhaps it should have been Carla BRATly . i like the drawings of the 2 spanking pages. both give us a good looking spankee and a reasonable OTK position. it seems to be to be a pretty exciting spanking that really adds to the story line. as usual, i enjoyed all the historical information about this one as well as your speculation about just who drew what. i don't really understand all the "technical" stuff you talk about such as penciling and inking but i do have some observations. i have to wonder if the splash page was drawn by the same artist that drew the strip. if you look at the splash page, it appears to be of a higher quality than the rest of it all the way around. of course, that could be just because the artist had more room to work with there but there are some differences i would like to point out. the splash page has captured the action of the scene much better in my opinion. it's obvious that her legs are kicking, her hair is all out of place and her dress is flying around...........even the position of her hands indicates to me that she is feeling this spanking. in the spanking panel within the story, she seems to just be lying there with every hair in place and her dress right where it should be. she might be kicking some but with her dress just lying there, it's pretty hard to tell. on the splash page, the faces are much clearer. she is obviously mad but also astonished and he just looks determined. on the spanking panel in the story, there seems to be just enough detail in the faces to give an impression.........both of them look pissed. last, i really don't think the people in the story look all that much like the people on the splash page. in any case, it's a really good comic spanking . the only problem i have with the spanking on the splash page is that the spanker's left hand seems too big..........kind of like the incredible hulk .

i thought your information about the consultants hired for the advice columns was really interesting...........i had no idea about this. of course, not having ever been a teen aged girl, i guess there isn't any reason that i would have . the young romances #25 is, again, just the kind of story we like although it would have been better had her spanker also been romantically involved with the spankee. i do like the drawing but i also have a problem with his arms, which to me, look out of scale with each other. i also agree with you that her bottom should have been better defined and probably would have with the kind of silky material that it appears her dress is made of. Still, not a bad spanking scene. more interesting information about the history of all this . good updates and i'm looking forward to rivals of humorama next week. thanks, Phil

HI WEB-ED CSR As much as I love the spanking in Popular Teenagers #14 you got the notice the different from the cover page and the one in the comic first off the spankee on the cover page is wearing a short sleeve blouse and in the comic she`s wearing a long sleeve jacket also on the cover page it look as though she is over one knee with her head laying on the other the comic page she position just right All in all this is A Classic Comic Spanking !!! GREAT! You would be surprise that a female advice columnist would approve of a spanking of a young woman! Awwww! Even though I'm looking forward to the next feature... I hate to see Romantic Spanking Month end! But then, Overbarrel will probably continue to contribute some lovely romantic spankings, no matter what month it is!

I Was a Shrew... what a great title, and what a great opportunity to work a spanking into the story! I agree with Phil that the splash panel was better than the spanking in the actual story... You could see the motion there! If it hadn't been for the comic code, and the fact that this particular comic book was most likely marketed to young girls... it would've been fun to see Peter raise Carla's skirt! And he threatened to spank her again if she didn't "act like a lady"! I could easily imagine Steve and Carla's lives as the years progress... I think she'd be likely to give him more reasons to spank her in the future!

WOW! A never-before-seen Romance Comic spanking! And it was a nice drawing... not perfect, but very nice! The way the folds in Sharon's skirt were drawn, it suggests a soft, thin, silky material... so that she probably felt the impact of Don's hand quite keenly! (Plus the added benefit that Don probably savored the feel of Sharon's cute round bottom too! )

The girls in both stories were guilty of some really bratty behavior, and needed to be taught a lesson or two. And both of them seemed to have taken their lessons to heart. And... in the best tradition of romantic spankings, they each fell in love with the men who spanked them, to live happily ever after! A great ending to Romantic Spanking Month!

The one spanking was at least M/F, but it was a little girl spanked by some apple thief. This is the second known spanking from Apple Mary, a strip I always thought was pretty boring. I found it reprinted in Crackajack Funnies #6 (Dell Nov. 1938). Because it's the spanking of a juvenile, it will not be presented on CSR but it will go into the data base, and anyone really curious can send me an email or PM and I will forward the page to you.

Not a great month, but then again I had very little time to search. I've got about 5000 pages piled up waiting for me to get to them, and perhaps I'll be able to this month.

Thanks for the plug for the end of my long toon "Family Tradition" . I will indeed be posting the last 10 pics tomorrow, although.......depending on how things go, I may actually post them later today instead.

As always, I was fascinated by the history you posted with cover of Pepper............especially the part where all the covers featured drawings by Bill Wenzel . I also thought it was interesting that they used full color covers rather than just one accent color and I have to wonder why that was? While it was interesting and so disappointing, that this is the only spanking drawing in any of them and again, I have to wonder why. If it was, as you speculated, an editorial decision, it was a damn poor one in my opinion . Wenzel sure drew nice looking spankees . I love the way the clingy fabric of her dress outlines her shapely bottom . of course, the OTK position is a bit off unless that psychiatrist is planning on leg locking his patient but she's so good looking that I'm inclined to overlook it . here we go with another left handed spanking.........and this time, Wenzel went to all the trouble to having him spanking with the wrong hand to achieve it . OK, i know that Wenzel had a habit of having his spankers use the wrong hand but this one just struck me as ironic.

Thanks for digging out this first ever psychiatrist spanking for us. It's a shame that none of this family of digests features any more spanking drawings but it's great to know where the first one came from . good updates. thanks, Phil

Wow! It's great to see a Bill Wenzel spanking cartoon that I've never seen before! As is so often the case with Wenzel's ladies, the patient looks voluptuous and appealing. Although her skirt isn't raised the way Decarlo, Ficklen, and Provence usually do, I like the way Wenzel suggests with the folds of the fabric that it's a thin silky fabric, and that she might not be wearing anything underneath!

Of course, one of the first things I noticed was the awkward use of his left hand with the woman facing the wrong way. Perhaps, in this case, there is a real reason for doing it that way. If the shrink was using his right hand, it would be obscured by the title in the upper left corner, and if the girl was facing the correct way for a left-handed spanking, the lower part of her legs would probably have to be out of the picture.

However, looking at the evil grin on his face, I have a feeling her expression is getting ready to change although I'm not going to speculate just what form that change may take . I agree with you about her position. It would have been nice if it was better and her bottom had been a bit rounder. Even at that, our boy seems to be thoroughly enjoying the view . Rivals of Humorama continues with a rather odd Leap Frog Spanking by comic strip artist Irv Hagglund. This is the first cartoon from the line of Wolf Books, and we'll be examining them closely over the next few weeks. They unfortunately had only a few examples of what we might call butt-slapping instead of real OTK spanking. Nonetheless, we'll see that the line was of some interest.

Hmmmm! I've never heard of the "Leapfrog" ploy to get a pretty young woman into a spankable position. Butch thought a "Spanking Tunnel" might work better... I suppose it would, especially if he'd squeeze his legs around her waist to keep her there.

Our sneaky spanker is obviously trying to conceal his intention, but his shaking hands (is he ambidextrous and trying to decide which hand to spank with?), sly grin, and line of sight pointing right at her derriere are dead giveaways.

Which hand? I would think, with her in that position, BOTH! (I'm not completely ambidextrous, but there are quite a few things that I'll do with either hand... or both... And swatting a pretty woman's rear end is one of them! )

• Apart from CSR Resident Artist Dan Rivera's Captain Woodshed and the Spies, which features a spy named Olga getting turned over the heroic Captain's knee, we can't think of any Cold War-inspired spanking scenes. Yet back during that period in 1957, the well-named Wham! magazine featured two spies with the same names as Dan's in a confused adventure that featured a semi-spanking, Boris the Butt-Slapper.
  
  This is actually the first entry in our mini-series on the Wolf Books. Somehow we got nonplussed last week and advertised Irv Hagglund's Leap-Frog Spanking as being from the Wolf Books, which it wasn't. Sorry for any confusion CSR Readers may have experienced as they looked at what was already a strange cartoon and wondered when we were going to explain what the Wolf Books were. Well, this week we finally get around to it, and we'll be sticking with the Wolf line for the next 5 weeks. That's what we get for finally working a little ahead of schedule!
• And speaking of Dan, he's begun a new Sam Swatt adventure over in his gallery, For Adults Only.
• And not to be outdone, CSR Resident Artist Overbarrel has begun his new story, Good Marks. Be sure to catch both of these as they're guaranteed to contain real spanking action as they go along!
