Actually, there are some Americans who like our coffee strong. That's who would be buying "Tartan Blend", IF it really existed. I decided to call my fictitous coffee "Tartan Blend" because of Armstrong's Scottish name. (And the big white X on his cup doesn't stand for brand X... it's the flag of Scotland)

Almost enough to make you wish there was a real Tartan Blend coffee and a real ad campaign like that in the '50s... isn't it?

Great idea, b00m, turning that old Chase & Sanborn ad into a spanking toon!

When I first saw that ad, I was fascinated by the idea that the American public, in 1952, would "accept" a picture of an M/F OTK spanking, right there on a magazine ad. If the public accepts that, then spanking in general must be okay with them, no?

And to be sure, mainstream movies released during the 1950s continued the delightful habit of showing scenes with a strong man spanking a deserving woman. Lemme see, we had "Across the Wide Missouri" (1951), "On Moonlight Bay" (1951), "Prisoners of the Casbah" (1953), "Captain Lightfoot" (1955), "The Female Animal" (1958), not to mention the numerous TV shows that featured spankings during that decade. All of these very public spankings were A-OK with the American public. So sure, why not publish a coffee ad showing a spanking?

Things sure changed after that. The women's libbers came along and tried to reshape American thinking. But now, with the help of you, Phil Overbarrel, Web-ed, Chross, and others bravely paving the way to a new world of "Spank Appreciation," we are seeing the return of some of that fire that fueled the love of spanking in earlier times. Your new OTKatie cartoon is the latest step in that direction. I am very pleased to see it, and I love that you have patterned it on a popular advertisement from the past.

Cheers,
Dan

The classic Chase & Sanborn coffee ad is one of the best, if not the best, of its general type. It is so iconic that it has spawned a modern re-creation which you've probably all seen (but if not I'll get around to posting it eventually) and a horrible F/M reversed version that I certainly will not be posting. So basing an O.T. Katie adventure on its fictional "Dizzie Lizzie" counterpart makes perfect sense, and as usual there are plenty of laughs as Katie lays the groundwork for her own future spanking. In fact, we end part 1 with Katie OTK, and I'm anxiously waiting to see what happens in part 2.

I was just a small boy during the '50s... born in 1953 and seven years old when the decade ended. The movies, TV shows, print ads, and even cartoons from that time make it look as if it was a Golden Age for "Male Chauvinists". Reality may not have been so perfect, but male dominance certainly seemed to be the ideal. Wives, girlfriends, and even female employees were expected to obey the man in charge, and spankings were an acceptable way of dealing with the ones who stepped out of line. Ah! Those were the days!

The Women's Lib movement doesn't seem to have affected Katie's life much. In many ways, she's a '50s girl living in 2013.

I know about the Cross of St. Andrew. The Americans who like strong coffee obviously don't drink that Starbucks muck.

Yeah! I wonder how they manage to stay in business! Somebody must be buying their "coffee", but nobody I know! (But then, considering what they spend on their beans and what they charge per cup, maybe they only have to seel two of them per year to make a profit!)

Starbucks opened a lot of shops in Australia early this century, most of them have since closed. Critics described their coffee as "weak and bitter".

I read somewhere that Australians are more familiar with Italian style coffee (I admit to having an espresso machine) while Americans are more familiar with french style coffee. What is it with cream in coffee? That sounds revolting!

This struck me as funny. There is a great old Jack Lemmon movie, Avanti (1972) in which an American executive journeys to Italy. The hotel manager tells him their hotel is famous for its mud baths, and suggests that Lemmon try it out. He replies:

"No thanks. I had some 'mud' on the train. Espresso. They call it 'coffee!'"

"Oh wow! I've wanted to do this ever since High School!" Maybe I'll do a story about that someday. Possibly I could have Mr. Ross (back when he was a shy High School boy) work up the nerve to ask one of the popular girls for a date, only to be rejected and humiliated.
Years later... it's Clorene's turn to be humiliated with a public spanking at the class reunion!
