Supplemental means something that completes or enhances something else when added to it. I'm sure the following clips fall more into the category of enhancing than completing but in any case I found these additional panels to be clarifying for determining such matters as date and cause. Mike Nomad spanked Robin Greene in the comic strip Steve Roper on November 21, 1957. Let's go back a few weeks in real time to see what motivated Mike Nomad to turn a wet and thinly clad Robin over his knees:
Dr. Greene has hired Mike Nomad to keep his daughter out of trouble. So he's actually there as a high price body guard and not as Robin's personal man-servant. Later in the strip a couple of the Greene's domestic employees marvel over the fact that Nomad is incredibly patient in the face of Robin's continuing abuse of his good nature. Dr. Greene informs his daughter that Mike has full authority in his absence while at the hospital this day or at anytime in the future. In other words, Mike Nomad has been given a license to spank!

Here's some of Robin Greene's bratty behavior that leads up that special moment when Nomad takes the necessary step to curb her bad attitude. How long will Mike Nomad put up with being degraded in public by the girl with the Barbie Doll waist line Get your own ginger ale We quickly reach the pertinent date. Robin has brought Mike to an isolated area and kissed him. Mike knows that this has taken place only because Robin wants Nomad fired and figures that her dad will do so when he learns how forward the detective has been.

Robin Greene doesn't strike me as the kind of girl who has had much experience at being spanked but even she realizes what's about to happen and responds by shouting to Mike the classic you wouldn't dare appeal. And of course, fortunately for us, he did dare.
