One thing we've never featured at CSR despite our strong emphasis on comics and the fact that spanking is very much a part of Japanese culture has been manga - Japanese comics (we don't favor the term "graphic novel"). As we're going to see the first of several spankings from manga now, we may as well explain why that is, but first let's go over some of their positive qualities.
First, they are extremely popular, meaning they are produced in great quantity with abundant opportunities for spankings. (It also means Japanese culture is more accepting of comics, which are openly read by people of all ages, than American culture, but that is not relevant here). Second, because spanking is still acceptable in Japan, manga natually reflects this and a large number of spankings have certainly appeared in them. (This is despite the practice of spanking being under attack there by know-it-alls who think they should decide what's best for everyone else - sound familiar? To make our position clear, we think spanking children is generally a bad idea, but we also think government deciding how parents should raise their children is a much worse idea.)
Here is our first manga example. The spankee is believed to be over 18. Due to some of our notes being lost, we're not sure about the title - it may have been something like "ASSM" because we did find the abbreviation "AS". We believe it was contributed by Zangoose. Thanks, guy!
The action isn't clear - we think you're supposed to read the panels from right to left - but an authority figure in uniform applies a leather(?) paddle to a young woman's bare behind. We don't know why she appears to be sitting on the ground in the last panel.
A second ritualistic swat is applied where it will do her the most good.

The spankee appears to be on her hands and knees as she takes the second swat, which we can only think is part of an official punishment. Hands and knees is an unusual spanking position in comics, but it's done well enough and we enjoy a pleasant viewing angle. Presumably the Japanese caption translates as "Yeowww!"
