Chicago Spanking Review

Belles and Wedding Bells #1

---> Comics Gallery 2

Belles and Wedding Bells was the "topper" or filler strip that accompanied Polly and Her Pals and like the latter strip was written and drawn by Cliff Sterrett, at least during the period that concerns us here. (Later on Sterrett was forced by arthritis to to enlist the help of assistants Paul Fung and Vernon Greene). And like some other filler strips (e.g. Lena Pry, although Belles was much better) it had at least one spanking, discovered by CSR Chief Strip Researcher Sweetspot who provided this short description:

"The humor in the strip derives from showing how behavior of a couple differs before and after marriage. I have already forgotten my source for the color panels but the black and white panels are ones I scanned after obtaining the color strip."

Let's see now the February 21, 1932 (Sunday) episode of Belles and Wedding Bells.

Like the spankings in Polly and Her Pals, this one is well-drawn from the standpoint of humorous caricature, at which Sterrett excelled, although of course not very erotic. This is consistent with it being a disciplinary spanking whose purpose is to change behavior, which it does reminding us of how effective spanking is for that purpose. wink
