We continue our Little Annie Fanny mini-series in which Doctor Cylon (with one exception) embellishes the art of Julius Zimmerman. As we mentioned last time, Zimmerman must have liked the character to have used her as his subject so many times, but his treatment here is far different - and far more problematical - than the pin-up we saw in "Classic".

"Help!" shows Zimmerman's humorous side: tangled up in her own pantyhose, Annie is stuck bending over (a Zimmerman trademark) with her hands touching the floor, displaying her enormous boobs (another Zimmerman trademark) and big, beautiful ass (ditto). A bending-over position in so many of Zimmerman's pieces is what makes them natural for the Good Doctor to work with, and he did two versions here. In the first, he colorizes Annie with his usual aplomb, being quite used to Zimmerman's pencil technique, and adding some nice red blush to her posterior.

In the second, an animated hairbrush shows how Annie's fanny got that color, now turned a deeper shade of red. That shading is nicely done, and the humor we've often seen in many of Doc's animations here perfectly complements Zimmerman's own (note the self-deprecating humor in the byline "Colourised by Dum-Dumm"). But there is one problem, and that is Zimmerman's rather gratuitous exposure (as we have termed it in previous discussions) of the female sexual area.

Now, some exposure is impossible to avoid if you're going to depict bare-bottomed females getting spanked while bent all the way over (touching their toes or, as here, the floor), and no artist should be told not to use such a wonderful fantasy position, yet the problem can be minimized by discreet camera angles or by not spreading the spankee's legs quite so much. (Some artists, including CSR Resident Artists Dan Rivera and HugoB00m, control the spankee's position and camera angle together to completely avoid the problem, while Phil Overbarrel minimizes the problem mainly through carefully controlled camera angles but does not completely avoid "exposure").

In this case, Zimmerman exacerbates the problem by spreading Annie's legs wide and giving us the view from directly behind her, probably because he considered it merely another humorous exaggeration, and we deliberated for a while before finally deciding to go ahead with it while mildly censoring the thumbnail version on the Doctor Cylon Gallery Page. (The two competing guidelines were (1) we don't like completely gratuitous "exposure", and (2) CSR readers are mature adults who can make their own decisions about where the bounds of good taste lie.) At CSR we always incline toward letting readers make up their own minds while retaining the editorial prerogative not to post anything we find outside the bounds referred to above - a prerogative we have had to exercise many times when it comes to Zimmerman's work. But that is a subject for another day.
