Bill Ward's cartoons wound up on the covers of many of the old Humorama publications. Here we see the first of two, from Jest (Sept. 1956). This is a maintenance spanking, not very common compared with the disciplinary or fun spankings that predominated in the Humorama line. It's fairly well done, although when a standing position is used we like to see both feet on the floor.

06/03/2011 Update: From Mike's collection we have what was probably the second printing of the cartoon in the February 1969 issue of Gaze. (To be precise, we know the cartoon appeared there and we know Mike collected his version in the mid to late 60's, so we're inferring that the two are one and the same). The joke is unchanged, but now we can see a lot more detail and better appreciate Ward's high-sheen effects. He certainly drew an extremely tight-fitting slip and well-defined buttocks!
