Why is her boss allowing her to try on her new underwear in the office?

At the end of the story, she's changing clothes in her own office in the bookstore she owns. He has an office too, but his is wood-panelled, and hers has purple walls.

Bullmoose manages the store, and has since Katie's father owned it, but technically, she's been HIS boss ever since she inherited ownership.

When Katie's father hired Bullmoose, he told him that he would be the store's manager... AND Katie's conscience... so his exact position is a bit complicated. And then he complicated things further by marrying her.

To put things as simply as possible, she's the boss in the family business, and he's the boss in their relationship.

Bullmoose married the heiress and took responsibility for controlling her misbehaviour.

Katie tried to use a steel-reinforced girdle to keep from getting birthday spankings. (It didn't work.)

I never used that inventor again in a story, other than showing him standing in line for one of Katie's other birthdays. Maybe I should bring him back.
