I like your idea of kidnapping a spoiled heiress and confining her on a desert island so that she can be spanked repeatedly, Butch, but all those old Tropical Island cartoons (even this spanking one) were based around another gag: that the woman can't escape the sexual advances of the man. (Come to think of it, they were on mighty shaky ground, but we'll forgive them). In this case, our spanker wants more sex so he isn't ready to leave the island just yet, and that's why he spanks her.

I also very much like this idea of kidnapping a spoiled heiress. I would much prefer for it to be the original story for this cartoon.


As for the updates they're great! Thanks for Your work Web-ed! I especially liked the two clips from bonanza, i haven't seen them before. I loved the first one, she acted so bratty. And it was great how she struggled during a spanking.
The second one was also very nice. Loved the look of horror on the spankee's younger sister's face.

And it was great to see spankings from Memin Pinguin. I have known them before and always liked them. Loved the cover, double spanking and how Chispitas tried to fight Bernando and how she struggled over his lap. And of course loved her round bottom.

I'm very curious if there was also some spanking in this Memin Pinguin issue that had this wonderful cover that You also posted earlier on Your site. I'd be willing to bet that there was some spanking back inside the interior of Memin #288; unfortunately, I don't have the issue, just the cover scan. Finding some of these issues is on my to-do list, but realistically, it's going to be difficult since I don't have any money and Mexico isn't exactly the safest place to go scrounging for comic books (or anything else) these days with the drug cartels running loose.

And thanks for finding it! I'll have to add it to the main site since it does indeed seem to be spanking #2 from issue #1011. All three of these spankings look remarkably alike, so I have to wonder if we're seeing some reprints (with #272 being reprinted in #1011) or if this was a common storyline (it sure wouldn't break my heart if these Bernardo/Chispitas spankings took place every couple of years or so ).

Other items I put in the Comics Spanking Data Base this week but will not be posting (interested readers can search them out over there):

1. Fly Man #37 (May 1966) – Shield/Gloater (M/M). Archie wanted to get back into the superhero game in the 60's, but I wish they hadn't climbed on board the midget-spanking bandwagon at the same time. Written by Jerry Siegel, who scripted some excellent M/F scenes in the Superman strip, and art by Paul Reinman.
2. Lois Lane #96 – Super-Tot spanking #6, except this super-tot became non-super. Script by Leo Dorfman. Six super-tot spankings just by Lois is really excessive! I believe this was the last, thankfully, and I won't be posting it as I did the others because I think this kid was non-super at the time.
3. Donald Duck – spanks his nephews Huey, Louie, and Dewey. Three separate scenes; probably others. In one, Daisy is present as a witness while Donald is seated on a log; the second takes place indoors, the third is Louie only from the daily strip 12/28. Goodness knows how many more of these may be out there - I hope I don't run across any more.
4. Sensation Comics #29 – Mala spanks a truck driver. More spanking from Wonder Woman, but not M/F.
5. Cookie - by Dan Gordon, published by American Comics Group. Looks like an early Archie-imitator. Spanking threats from his Dad seem to have been common for Cookie, beginning with issue #1. Two hairbrush spankings, issues unknown.

Golden Age Search for February: 4175 pages searched bringing the total to 352173; one good new M/F spanking with a few pages left to examine. It will be two or three weeks before I post it in the main part of CSR, but if you can't wait Ripley already posted it on the SpankingPanels forum.

Humorama Search: This is on the back burner now because I've run out of low-cost books and because I don't think there's much left to find. I've only got one or two more books to look at. By the way, if anyone has been thinking of buying any of these old digests, don't pay $14.95 or more on e-bay for them because I've been making them slowly available in digital form on our sister site CSW for only $3.50 apiece. Of course, I can only do one book per week, and I may not go beyond 10 because they're not selling, but the point is some of these e-bay sellers know just enough to be dangerous: they see Bettie Page and Bill Ward and think, "Oooo - this is a collectible book. I can get $30 for it." I've seen some of these out there for months, and of course they're not selling at that price (one seller wanted $50!). Neither photos of Bettie nor drawings by Ward are exactly in short supply - you can get plenty of both for free, and no one who knows the market is going to pay anything like $30 or even $20 for these books. I don't think I ever paid more than about $7.00 for a 50's digest that was in excellent condition, and I got a lot of them (with Ward and Bettie!) for about $2.00.

Since this search is pretty much over, I've gone ahead and written some Humorama articles (we've seen one and I have two more in the hopper plus more on the drawing board). We've had the "Spanking Verses" and next week we'll have "Spanking Mentions" in which I make the case that editor Abe Goodman was a spanko. Plus I'm currently putting together one on "Humorama Spanking Positions" which is a lot of fun. Just so nobody thinks I've been slacking off or something .

One of my regrets over the past couple of years is having written so few articles. Well, I'm making up for some of it this year with the Humorama stuff and "The Effects of the Comics Code on Spanking", part 1 of which appears this week. There aren't any new spankings revealed in this four-part series, but there are some new discoveries about what the Code did to us and plenty of pictures, including a couple of humorous ones re-engineered by yours truly . In Part 1, I give an introduction and set the stage; later on we'll see that the Code almost completely wiped out M/F spanking for one critical ten-year period.

I took a look at your update this week and learned a lot from your article about the Comics Code. I remember seeing the seal on all the comic books I read as a kid, but never really knew what it meant. Thank you for your explanation. I look forward to your next instalment

I liked the Kirk Stiles comic you posted, in spite of the flaw you pointed out. I suspect that he might not have been interested in spankings himself, and just drawing a quota of spanking cartoons for the editor. I base my suposition on the observation that Phil made about cartoonists who focus on women's breasts, as opposed to the ones who focus on women's backsides. Kirk Stiles always seemed to put more time and effort into drawing an alluring pair of breasts than he did making a lady's buttocks round and spankable... even when that was the whole point of the gag!

As always, thank you for the time and effort that you put into the updates.

Another top-knotch week. Always love the sexy underwear in the Humorama stuff."Love, honor, and disobey"- what a clever phrase. Sure scenes like this one actually happened in r/l back in those days.
The highlight though was the Mexican comics spanking. Don't think there'd ever have been one like that in American comics, even before the code, where the woman is shown getting spanked on her underwear. Even the Phantom and Smilin' Jack artists never did that. All i can say is- hope there are more.
Wonder if spanking might be more acceptable in Latin American comics anyhow. Maybe you'll come across some Brazilian comics with a woman getting spanked in the type of swimwear favored down around Rio.
The Comics Code article is very informative. One thing I'd like to point out is that after the Code wiped out some of the material used in romance comics, readers then turned to the risque and titillating stories in adult romance magazines of the True Confessions genre.
Have a story. Many years ago I was waiting in a hospital waiting room to see someone, when I saw a copy of some romance mag, don't recall the title, that was in the room magazine stack. On the cover was "The Night I spanked my mother-in-law." I of course read it, which was an acounbt of how a young husband finally got fed up with his mother-in-law's shrewish, hateful treatment of him, and put her over his knees for some smacks across the back of her skirt. It left the impression that she might behave like less of a virago toward him in the future. Also recall that he reflected as to whether his father-in-law had ever wanted to do the same thing.
Romance mags like this might be a fertile place to explore for spankings.

i like Doc Cylon's choice of drawings to color this time. as you mentioned it does capture all the essentials of the kind of spankings i like best . good alterations by oxken and you're right.................she does look more pleased not that her husband has figured out he's supposed to spank her . i really like the El Payo spanking. makes me wish i could read Spanish. nice long story with several spanking panels and of course on the seat of her panties. it's a shame that other countries can have nice spankings in their comic books and we can't . not only that but also the expressions of pain and the tears are nicely done. much better than much of what we get. i love the spanker's idea as conveyed in the caption . as you noted the otk position is pretty strange. i was confused by her attire. her garters are unhooked but no panties are pulled down and is that panties or a slip covering her bottom? her dress seems to have been taken off. none of it will matter much if she tries to stand up on feet that small though . i really enjoyed your article. there was tons of information that i had no clue about. i had to read it in 2 sittings though. after reading the first part about unrelenting criticism and accusations the comics code authority, i was so mad i had to stop for a while. i would comment on the people who were doing the accusing and criticizing but i can't without using all the most vile words i know. to say i don't like being told what i can or can not enjoy is certainly an understatement. you mention later in the article that you didn't consider it censorship by definition. i would say that it seems to be to be at least some sort of back door censorship, however. perhaps contrived by people who wanted to tell everyone else what to enjoy but didn't want it said that they were censoring anything . anyway, this was totally fascinating and i'll be looking forward to the next installment . thanks, phil

Hi WEB-ED CSR!!! First off the fact and history of the Comic Code is a real I opener never knew that Horror or Terror couldn`t be used in a comic! Can`t wait for part 2! Many thanks, Web-ed, for reprinting the mammoth spanking of the beautiful but evil "Lilia" from that 1972 issue of "El Payo." You're right when you say it was atypical of ANY comic strip of its day, to continue a spanking over so many different panels. But that's what we like to see.

Thanks, too, for quoting my translation of the Spanish captions. I'm not fluent in spoken Spanish, but I can read and understand it... and there is no doubt what these words were saying! Lilia's spanking was monumental, and I've never seen another one like it. However, the spanking in "Memin Pinguin" of Chispitas by Bernardo is similar, except that in that comic the spankee is wearing a pants suit and we cannot enjoy the sight of her reddening bottom, as we can with "El Payo."

Also, I enjoyed seeing your post of Kirk Stiles' toon where a husband has his wife bent over his lap, but doesn't know what to do next, to the dismay of the marriage counselor. That toon reminded me of a scene in the film Secretary (2002), where Maggie Gyllenhaal puts herself across the lap of her fiancé, played by Jeremy Davies. See, she's "into" spanking, but he isn't. So Davies just sits there with his girlfriend across his lap, and does nothing, much to Maggie's disappointment.

When I first started the Humor Gallery back in 2004, I didn't know how important the Humorama spanking cartoons would become to it since I only had two or three. Because there are now about 134 with 31 more to come, I have rearranged the Humor Index page so that the Humorama thumbnails are all together (with the exception of Secretary Spanking #8, which isn't from Humorama). The idea is to make it easier to visually search through what is going to become a collection of 165(!) "spankers".

The Golden Age Search did turn up one more M/F spanking in a romance comic, which along with the one a couple of weeks ago gives us two. I'll be presenting these as soon as we're done with our current foreign comics mini-series. And of course I'm always trying to obtain copies of the five other GA books I suspect have spankings in them, but these are all pretty rare and difficult to get a hold of.

The first part of my article "The Effects of the Comics Code on Spanking" last week was well-received, I'm happy to say, but I decided to hold off on part 2 this week to make room for the Humorama Spanking Mentions article. This is a fascinating (I hope) look at cartoons and other features in which spanking is mentioned even though not actually depicted. Taken all together and along with Humorama Spanking Verses that we saw a few weeks ago, I think there's enough evidence to conclude that if editor Abe Goodman wasn't a spanko, he sure had a suspicious degree of sympathy for M/F spanking!

I plan to do Parts 2 - 4 of "The Effects of the Comics Code on Spanking" the next three weeks.

Now for this week's updates:

• A strange spanking evidently from some German comic that we can only call "Day Four".

Could be, but I'm not sure I could bear to wade through all that purple prose! Not to mention the difficulty in finding the raw source material. I've had a hard enough time trying to assemble some spanking mentions (and suggestive positions) from non-spanking men's magazines. Penthouse used to have some reader's letter mentioning spanking about every issue, but I never read it - in fact, my interest in non-spanking men's magazines was always pretty limited except for some old issues of Playboy I collected in my youth. I have assembled some choice tidbits from Playboy, Eye, Mr. and Cover Girls Models - enough for an article which I'll get around to eventually.

I really like the Doc Cylon pic this week. very nicely shaped bottom on our newlywed spankee not to mention some nice coloring . the German drawing may not be the best but it does convey the idea that the spanker is irritated and taking it out on the spankee's bottom . the artist does have a tendency to exaggerate body parts..............her bottom, her breasts and of course his nose . interesting information you've dug up about the Stiles "burned steak" drawing. i like seeing the original art and the history of it . only a well conveyed suggestion that a spanking is going to take place here but i just love the expression on the spanker's face . i thought your "spanking mentions" was another good article . lots of interesting information as well as nice looking ladies to look at. i had no idea when the first bare breasts and bare bottoms were shown. it sure "seems" like Abe Goodman found something to like about spanking. as far as the video goes..................how "indeed" does he get away with that . i gotta say that this is certainly a fantasy that a lot of men have..............good find even if it isn't much of a spanking . thanks, phil

Hiya, Web-ed... Quite a nice, eclectic mix of spank materials you have, in your new Weekly Updates.

For one thing, we note that you have presented only ONE image in which a traditional, over-the-knee spanking is depicted. That would be the cartoon you have labeled "Day Four." The first, including the standing bride with her bridal gown lifted, has been seen before, but without Doc Cylon's hand intervening repeatedly and rhythmically.

The next two entries include Kirk Stiles' humorous toon about the wife who's about to get her "ham" roasted for burning hubby's steak; plus a story, in prose, about a secretary who follows her boss' instructions but tells him she did not, just to get the spanking she loves and probably deserves anyway. Prose about spanking doesn't usually do much for me, but this one is written with such glorious word pictures that it "got to me" anyway. I like it.

Following are seven (7) pics -- both drawing and photos -- that discuss spankings but don't actually show any such thing; but they rung my chimes anyway.

The one entry that actually shows a workplace spanking being administered is, ironically, my least favorite of the new entries. We see a paddling of some female employee, three swats by two different guys. But this one fails to pique my spanko sense, for a couple of reasons. One of them, pointed out by you yourself, is that the girl is not bent over far enough. Two, she is wearing what is essentially a man's uniform -- khaki jeans and a work shirt -- and not looking particularly feminine. Three, the instrument of displeasure is not a man's hand, but a paddle; and though that may work for a lot of guys here, it never works for me. The human hand is, to me, the only proper instrument of spanking, for the sensation of flesh upon flesh that is so gloriously palpable.

But as usual, all your current entries are worthy of inclusion here, at the Chicago Spanking Review, and I thank you again and again, for opening our eyes to them.

To me,material like those mags and others of that era are truly erotic and sensual, in large part because they leave, even in ones with nudity) a little something to your imagination. Now it seems to be too many have the idea to show an erotic picture all it has to be is a woman with her legs spread like she is in the gynecologist's office. "Beaver shots" have no appeal to me at all. Much prefer the woman being wearing panties, swimsuit, or other sexy clothes, or if nude maybe lying on her side or stomach with a coy smile on her face, The one with Lorrie pulling down her panties is a good example.
The Doc Cylon is great. The theme of the bride getting spanked on her wedding night, or her honeymoon is one that is always a hit.
Agree that the German comic was reminiscent of Robert Crumb. He did draw women and girls with exagggerated bottoms. Don't recall seeing any spankings in his art though . Though some of his women, like the hippie chicks with bottoms packed into tight jean cutoff short-shorts, would certainly been good candidates.

I've written another Humorama article, supposedly on "Spanking Positions", but I wandered a little far afield at times and included some "vanilla" pin-up poses. I don't think anyone will mind, though, because in addition to more of Bettie Page, there are some surprisingly well-known women included as well as some very pretty models who never became famous. We'll be seeing this one in about a month.

Speaking of Humorama, we have two more Stiles "spankers" the next couple of weeks, in both of which the spanker is the spankee's psychiatrist. One of them was posted on this board by Dan some time ago, but the other has never been seen before as far as I know. We'll also finish up our current foreign comics series with two from France before looking at two more Golden Age romance comic spankings, and also continue with parts 2 - 4 of my Comics Code article. Finally, I've edited two more videos, one a condensed version of a strange Joker/Harley spanking that Chross presented, and the other a paddle swat administered to a stripper in the movie Gypsy that no one but me seems to have remembered. We'll have to squeeze them both in somewhere.

Another busy week with two new links and six updates (I've gotta stop working this hard)! The details are below, but I'll just draw special attention to Part 2 of The Effects of the Comics Code on Spanking, the series which I strangely chose to interrupt last week for a Humorama special presentation. This time we get into some actual instances of spankings that were suppressed either by a nervous publisher or by the Code Office as we complete our study of what happened during the 1950's. I produce statistical evidence showing a steep decline in adult M/F spankings after the implementation of the Code.

Just got through reading the piece on the Comics Code. I so agree that Wertham likely confused cause and effect.
The figures you gave for spankings before and after the Code further proves your point. However, its ironic that the only spankings they let slip by were parental spankings of children, something that so many in the spanking community do not approve. Look at all the spanking sites that state this specifically, and even forbid discussion of the topic.
The Code ruined the comics back then, and it has taken years for the medium to recover. Its not just spankings, so many other topics became forbidden. Imagine not being allowed to use the words "horror" or "terror" in a comics title. And of course anything that even remotely hinted at sex. Have a feeling a lot of the jungle comics that featured characters like Lorna the Jungle Girl got hit.
And looking back, one wonders what so much of the controversy was about. I think the Phantom Lady cover is pretty tame- but then seeing pictures of women tied up(as opposed to being spanked) does nothing for me. And another thing, for those of us who remember the cowboy TV shows of the 50s, all those times when the villain got the drop on the good guy and tied him up, no one ever thought there was anything "kinky " about that. So why not the same with a female hero?

as usual Doc Cylon did a great job of coloring and animating the drawing by Tooner. the woman seems oddly proportioned to be but she does have a nicely rounded bottom. interesting looking toy she's holding. nice find in the French spanking toon. i like the pic of the bare bottomed young lady getting what appears to be a good blistering by the highly irritated sailor and also her expression of pain:D . i also like her final reaction to the spanking..................just as it should be if you ask me . DeCarlo's idea that her hat is attracting too much attention seems like a made up reason for him to spank her to me. of course, i can't really fault him for that having made up a few reasons to administer a spanking myself along the way . since the spanker has her otk with her dress pulled up on a park bench, it seems unlikely that he is "very" worried about attracting attention. i have to agree with you that men routinely spanking their women is indeed a fashion i would like to see return. i like the startled look of disbelief on the spankee's face.................just as you'd think. looking at the different versions and different scans, some with the artist's signature and some without i can appreciate all the detective work it takes from you to get to the origin of these things. i agree that Todd did a first rate job of coloring the "spanking breeze"pic and of course having the panties down is nice too interesting point about the attention to the female anatomy but little on the male. you gotta give the spanker credit though..........he's giving a really good spanking for a man with his arm broken that badly . i have to agree with you that Stiles shows an understanding of the "psychology" behind the need to spank your woman..............or perhaps i should have said the psychology of spanking a woman's behind . thanks for giving us a look at the way a lady's underwear should look as you said, highly educational photos...........and no i didn't see any jewelry . i thought part 2 of your article on the comics code was "really" informative. i certainly think you're on to something when you say that Wertham might well be reversing cause and effect . from my own experiences and some things that i have been told by others as i have traveled around the spanking community on the internet, it seems reasonable to me that most true spankos were probably hard wired that way from the get go and that spankings in comics or any other media would have had little effect on anyone who wasn't already thinking along those lines.

you also said,"My personal theory is that while spankos are made and not born, the transformative event, as I call it, takes place very early in life and has nothing to do with comic books." i guess i don't have a real feel for which is correct between "made or born". what i can tell you is this, when i hit puberty i was already a spanker at heart. it seemed perfectly natural to me that a man would spank his woman when she needed it and i was highly aroused by spanking right from the second puberty kicked in. while i think it's pretty obvious that environmental factors as you are growing up have a large influence...........just look at the difference in the "preferred" female body shapes between the 1960s and today. on the other hand, i think there are some genetic factors which have evolved to ensure genetic diversity in the gene pool which affect the process of mate selection. whether spanking per se falls into this category is less clear. lots of men are attracted way more to the bottom cheeks of girls than they are the breasts...............the reverse is equally true of course.

after reading your articles through and portions of them more than once, one thing is clear. you are a very nice man...............MUCH nicer than i would have been. You mention "WERTHAM'S BELIEF THAT COMICS COULD ADVERSELY AFFECT THE SEXUAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN". i guess i don't agree that this is necessarily a true statement. my analysis of the situation, which is more from a lifetime of experience in general and less about spanking is this; this seems to me to be a clear case of one person trying to force his views on the masses. it seems likely to me that he never really thought comics had this adverse effect. i find it much more likely that he just didn't like spanking or sexually suggestive comics for his own personal reasons and set out to "create" a connection where none existed in an attempt to get people to back his own viewpoint. now this is just my viewpoint based on observation and analysis of information as i have gone through life but.........IF TRUE...........i would classify it as lies at the very least or as a type of verbal terrorism. great article and great update. thanks, phil
