Dan was right and I did skip your weird spankings. I have no desire to see men get spanked. for me, there is just something not right about that. the natural order of things, again to me, is male spanking female. I do have to commend you for posting these though as there might be people who are into this or anything spanking. different strokes for different folks, so to speak!

I had never given any thought to the OTK being erotic. my spankings are disciplinary so there are never any erotic thoughts going through my mind while OTK. I guess, now that I think about it, this can be a very complicated position, even in a case like mine. as to the bar spanking, the swats didn't look that hard to me as to merit all that rubbing. i'm sure they stung, but maybe the rubbing was for the benefit of their audience. sometimes I don't rub that much after a bare bottom paddling, and more than one swat at that! and they didn't bend over far enough either, but as Phil said, a good time was had by all! but, this reinforces my belief that you don't present your bottom to someone with a paddle who is not sure about what he is doing!

As you said, not the best, but at least it's a man spanking a pretty woman with his hand. The kneeling position does look awkward, and I've never tried it myself, but that was how Howard Keel held Kathryn Grayson when he spanked her in Kiss Me, Kate. Perhaps that was the artist's inspiration.

One of my first exposures to "domestic discipline" was in 1963, when McLintock! was first released. At that age, I was just beginning to be capable of getting an erection, and that was the first scene from a movie that ever gave me one! I suspect that the only reason that the censors ever let McLintock! be released without some serious editing was that John Wayne used the decidedly un-erotic fireplace shovel to paddle Ms O'Hara's scantily-clad posterior, instead of his hand.

Unfortunately, back in those days... the only spankings I ever participated in were the F/m or M/m kind... with myself as the recipient. Those were definitely NOT the least bit fun or erotic!

It's interesting to read the "other" point of view! For me, as a spanker, it's an enormous turn-on to have a pretty woman turned over across my lap with her big round bottom pointing up at me! For one thing, there is the feel of her thighs resting on one of my legs and her upper torso resting on the other. If I'm pretending to "discipline" the lady... (but really doing it for foreplay) I will rest my hand on her buttcheek while I "lecture" her about whatever "naughty" thing she may have done. And then, of course, there's the visual attraction of having a beautiful woman in that position! I love the way female buttocks are shaped! If there's any embarrassment involved, it's mearely a side-effect of what I'm really after. When I lift a skirt or lower a pair of panties, it's so that I can enjoy the view!

Actually, everyone, if I hadn't already gone on at such length I probably would have said the potential eroticism of the OTK position. For much in spanking is rather ambivalent, dependent upon the specific people and situation involved. As Sunflower notes, the OTK position is not really any more erotic than any other when the spanking is very disciplinary in character. Perhaps I should say "exclusively disciplinary". For example, if a child is being spanked (something we generally don't show here on CSR), this is pure discipline and is not erotic even if the OTK position is used. On the other hand, in the famous Spirit/Ellen spanking, you have an overtly disciplinary scene where Ellen has lured the Spririt to her college campus under false pretenses, but because there is a romantic attraction between the two characters, and yes, because the OTK position renders her submissive and vulnerable, there is a decided erotic flavor to the scene.

The eroticism is always possible in a M/F scene (and in other orientations but we won't get into them here) because spanking can be perceived as dominance and submission - this is a crucial point, and one we will be exploring in the not-too-distant future. Whether a spanking is actually perceived that way depends on a lot of things, and that potential looms large when I develop my theory of the Transformative Event. Meanwhile, I'm glad everybody enjoyed the updates, at least the M/F ones.

Hi Butch,
I fear I may have been a little unclear because I was mentioning three different articles in one post! Allow me to clarify:

1. History of the Spanking Cartoon - not sure when I can get to this one, but it will be written eventually. Might be a year from now, though, because I've got to first complete a series of the non-Humorama humor magazine cartoons I've got stockpiled, and there's about a dozen of them.
2. History of Comic Book Spanking - I never actually wrote such a history, although maybe I should some time in the future. I did write a four-part article on the Effects of the Comics Code on Comic-Book Spanking a couple of years ago, and I think you've already seen that one - if not, just follow the link to Part 1. I only ran the statistics on M/F spanking when I did that article, not F/M or M/M. I really should do that some time. I think F/M and M/M would have been unaffected, being considered either disciplinary or humorous, and as for F/F, it was the rarest orientation throughout the Golden Age for some reason (and probably for the Silver Age as well). So your question has stimulated me to do even more future articles, but they'll have to wait for awhile because we've got so much going on this year
3. As for newspaper strip spankings, these were never submitted to the Comics Code, so there should have been no effect on them. When I was researching the article on the Code, I simply manually removed them from the results of my search queries to the Comics Spanking Data Base, and I no longer remember how many there were. Another time I'll have to run the numbers, but I strongly suspect that any lessening in strip spankings was due to changing tastes rather than the influence of Fredric Wertham and other critics. For some reason, newspaper comic strips have always been held in higher esteem than comic books, even though the first comic books (c. 1936) were no more than compilations of newspaper strips! Notice that we've got four good M/F Superman spankings in his newspaper strip, but none (unless we include the Robot / Lois scene) in the comic books.

The things a dedicated spanking researcher goes through. This week I came across an item I'd been seeking for some time, or so I thought:

"Should babes be spanked?" Gee, I dunno, that's a tough one...

The problem is that this is the British edition of Wink from October 1949, and it doesn't have the spanking story in it! Why that was left out in a country where school caning was still going on regularly is a mystery to me. So I'll have to keep hunting for the American version, which usually commands prices beyond what I can afford to pay. I already have some spanking examples from the Robert E. Harrison publications of this period, and we'll see them eventually, but most of them are F/F and look a lot like the familiar ones from Irving Klaw that had Bettie Page and others. This one I hoped would have at least one M/F shot, probably with its eroticism disguised in some fashion.

I mention this because we were just discussing here last week the potential eroticism of the OTK position and spanking generally, and it's rather interesting that magazines like Wink in the late 1940's tried to pretend they weren't appealing to sexual interests (rather unconvincingly), and spanking humor cartoons generally did the same thing by employing burlesque gags like the classic "Bend over, get a swat". Movies too generally tried to make spankings seem as humorous as they could (to blunt the eroticism, in my view), leaving the humble comic book alone in presenting M/F scenes with erotic potential, at least until the Comics Code came along in 1954 and shut them down. Fortunately, the first Secretary Spanking cartoon came along one year later in 1955, and then Humorama took up the slack until comics got back in the spanking game for real in 1966. (By the way, that first Secretary Spanking was not Humorama, and we'll be getting around to seeing it eventually).

I promise I'll write two articles in the future covering these points in more detail - and with some examples for us all to stare at ! For now let me simply observe that the 50's were a time of artistic vitality and increasing sexual liberalization, in contrast to the dull, conformist image that the cultural Left promulgated when it started rewriting history in the 60's.

i think the disappointing copy of "Wink" that you'd been wanting for so long goes nicely with the discussion of the eroticism of OTK spanking we've been having. i have a hunch that the spanking story wasn't left out of this one. it seems more likely to me that there never was one and that spanking was mentioned on the cover because the publisher knew full well that spanking is erotic and he was using that to help sell his magazine. this isn't the first time we've talked about a spanking shown in a movie trailer when there was no spanking in the movie or a spanking on the cover of a book when there was no spanking in the book. spanking is erotic and that sells books, magazines and movies. they can deny it or try to pass it off as a humorous situation all they want but that doesn't change the facts. i liked that drawing on the cover btw. that plus the question, "Should Babes be Spanked" would probably have caused me to buy this edition of Wink . i'll be interested to see if there really was an article and if it's in the American version if we ever find it.

whether this article exists or not, i think your comment above is right on the money! they tried to "pretend" they weren't appealing to sexual interests. i'll be looking forward to your articles when you get time to write them

i like the new scan of the spanking panel Tip Tucker spanking Giddy. i do think it's more clear than the other one. i also agree with you 100% that the spanking would have been better if he was using his hand instead of a book. a book is obviously a poor spanking implement and i have a hunch this is probably been done for the same reason that McLintock gives he future son in law a coal shovel...............it always comes down to covering up that eroticism doesn't it . i can't say i liked the Hunter vs Rogue spanking although i do agree with you that he is quite a good artist. the drawing is actually good and very complex, i just don't like the characters in this one. btw, i would also have taken the knife away before turning her over . good updates and discussion this week . thanks, phil

Yeah! You're right about the book, but I love the look on Giddy's face. It's easier to see now. Do you kave any knowledge about the story? I don't know who Giddy Jones or Tip Tucker are, and I have no idea WHY he decided to spank her... (other than she's got a cute little "target" for it! ) Perhaps overbarrel is right about why the book was used as a spanking implement. It certainly takes some of the eroticism away, doesn't it?

On Boots and Her Buddies #7: I believe Tip was using the book because he was tutoring Giddy, but obviously we all would have preferred he use his hand. B00m asked if I had any more information on the story so that we could understand the motivation for the spanking. Unfortunately, the answer is no, at least for now. With this and other examples in Comics Gallery 2 where I had limited scans to work with, I've never forgotten about looking for new scans of the books or maybe buying them (but buying old and rare Golden Age comics is difficult and expensive), and I won't give up until we've got the whole story on all of them. I'm hoping that JVJ has Boots #7 in his fabulous collection - if he does, it will be scanned eventually and of course we'll see at least the relevant pages here.

Dan mentioned the excellent spanking in Donovan's Reef - of course he knows all the cinema spankings backwards and forwards - and it is truly an excellent one, if a little short. You can actually see the dust flying from the first couple of spanks - obviously The Duke was actually spanking Elizabeth Allen and not faking it! I haven't been able to figure out how to embed YouTube players on this forum, but here is the link to the spanking scene.

The single spanking is from Oaky Doaks (8/28/1939, AP Features Service) but it's F/M – a barbarian is going to attack Oaky from behind while he’s busy fighting others, so Judy whacks him with a sword flat. I won't post this one, but it's interesting to note that one month later, Judy herself gets turned OTK, and a black & white version of that scene is already in Comics Gallery 2. I have a color scan of it also from a reprint which we'll be seeing some time soon, I hope.

I obtained over 50 Humorama and other humor digests and magazines this month. Only one new spanking cartoon, but it's a good one from Kirk Stiles. I also found a lot of the cartoons we've already seen but didn't know the history of, so the remaining Humorama mysteries are slowly being cleared up. We'll see many of these versions in the future. One disappointment is how many digests from 1956 had no "spankers" at all, nor did Humorama's rival publications for the most part (I've amassed about 10 non-Humorama spanking cartoons from that era, and of course we'll see them eventually).

i was happy to hear that you are finding the history or more humorama spanking toons and i'll be looking forward to these getting updated . i'm also looking forward to see what you have in store for us during romantic spanking month . as you noted, the genie spanking isn't a great spanking but it's better than nothing. i will say that the paper scan is much, much better than the old one. i thought the best part of this one was the information you presented about the artist and the script. i think the Anton Caning drawings are good ones. he seems to have a really good grasp of how to draw the female form . in the first drawing, the expressions of the players, along with that cane, really say it all. it's totally obvious what's gonna happen even without the second pic . of course, i'm glad the second drawing is included . the girls are nicely drawn with very spankable bottoms. i love it that we have one girl finished and one just ready to have the cane applied to her bare bottom. . the girl on the right sobbing and no doubt wishing she could straighten up and rub her stripped bottom and the girl on the left, still in her stiff legged, toe touching position as her panties are lowered. we can't see her expression but we can assume that she has a big knot in her stomach at this moment . good updates again. thanks for taking time to provide them for us . phil

Yes! a much better scan than before, but it wasn't my favorite spanking in a comic. I think the writer missed the mark by having the man order the genie to spank his wife... instead of wishing to become bigger and stronger so that he could spank her himself. And for that matter, he should've wished for her to become prettier, so that she'd be even more fun to spank!

The two young ladies are beautifully drawn... but for me... it's a waste to... first of all, have them caned... and secondly, to have the cane wielded by a woman! Sigh! F/F just isn't my thing!

I'm not sure I know the answer to that, Willjohn. Doctor Cylon is still with us, I'm happy to say, and I heard from him last October. He sent along a new cartoon and another version of an existing one, and I will certainly post these eventually, but I don't know if he's still as active as he used to be. The circumstances that allowed him to produce so much excellent work were somewhat unusual, and it may be that something has changed in his life that doesn't permit him to spend so much time coloring and re-working these drawings. As I say, I'll post the few Doc Cylon items I have, and after that we'll just have to hope for the best.

Romantic Spanking Month Begins!

• Romance Comics Spanking: A short three-page story from My Own Romance #24, is this one, in which "A Man for Amy" turns out to be our kind of man - the spanking kind! And Amy is very happy with him. We found this one the old-fashioned way, just as we used to back in the 70's and 80's before the internet. The script is probably by Stan Lee!

Next Week: A romance comic called Daring Love dared to have a spanking in its last issue, and we'll see it here for the first time anywhere!

thank you for your hard work on this one. both the finding and the coding. I did enjoy it! the language is rather funny ( I never heard anyone called a lop eared whatever it was!) but the cowpoke is indeed a prince charming, riding in on a white horse and showing Amy who the boss is. she definitely got what she deserved! I'm guessing that the language is the way they talked on the old time westerns. I've watched some old Bonanzas, and I know Hoss talks like that.
