Steve Canyon #2 - Poteet Caned

The second of three examples from Milton Caniff's Steve Canyon. This appears to be a dream sequence in which Steve sees his ward, Poteet, as an eighteenth-century maid about to be disciplined for spitting at her master. It isn't clear whether the implement is supposed to be a cane or a riding crop, since the handle is too thick for either - as we mentioned last time, we don't think Caniff had any firsthand spanking knowledge.

This time it was only a dream, but Poteet comes very close to getting a real spanking next time - at her own request!

12/22/2017 Update: Sweetspot, in the course of his newspaper searches, has found a better scan of this one and includes the build up from the day before. He has also identified the date: Aug. 7-8, 1979. It's a very maladroit caning from Caniff, but as we've said before, we don't think he was a spanko and certainly didn't know the ins and outs of corporal punishment during the colonial period.
