We have no idea where this odd little item came from. We think the title is something like "More Serene" although this domestic scene is anything but. Our translation of the dialogue follows:
WIFE: But cheri, what do you do - you in the maid's room?
HUSBAND: Even after we talk to you, you don't change. There's too much salt in your sauce...
"Too much salt in your sauce" may be a French idiom meaning "You are impertinent," like the English
adjective "saucy," which is slang for "impertinent" or "sassy" (from which, we suspect, it may
have been derived). And surely there can be but one punishment for a saucy wench, and that is
to be taken OTK and soundly spanked!
Natural enough,
but this comic or cartoon still seems pretty odd: How can people this poor afford a maidservant?
And we couldn't help but notice the hairbrush under the little table next to the bed - is it
normally used for brushing or spanking? It's just possible there's more going on here than meets
the eye.
