One of George Morrice's less-typical efforts now as a determined spanker named Henry wastes no time on emotionalism or discussion - he just starts whacking away! Somebody messed up the gag here by using the wrong word - it should have read "you don't mope around" not "you don't mooch around". Perhaps the American slang "mooch" was not well-understood by the British Morrice, although the song "Minnie the Moocher" had made it to England in the 1930's. The spankee looks distressed as we expect from Morrice, but his usual half-slip has been replaced by a badly-drawn pair of cami-knickers (inferred since the hemline isn't straight as it would be with a half-slip). Also, the OTK position isn't as good as Morrice usually manages, the spankee appears to be floating above Henry's lap, and Henry himself is seated on a low mattress oddly placed on the living-room floor!

This cartoon was taken from the September 1963 issue of Jest, which was its second appearance. Just before we posted this page, we discovered the cartoon's first printing in the February, 1957 issue of Joker (see below).

The earlier caption is the same as the later with two minor differences: the typography, and the British spelling of "harbour" which editor Abe Goodman either preferred or didn't notice. Goodman was generally up on his spelling and grammar, but given the misuse of "mooch" it still could have been either. And either way, this cartoon is another first for CSR since we have never seen it any place else.
