Popular Jokes (1957 - 1981) was the most successful of Humorama's full-sized magazines. It and three other titles were the last survivors of the line. At first it reprinted cartoons from before the "Golden Age" of the mid-50's, probably because the digests were already beginning to reprint the GA cartoons - we still don't know the exact dates, but starting in 1961, the digests were basically reprinting stuff from the mid-50's, perhaps because the earlier material wasn't selling. Popular Jokes then followed suit, reprinting material from 1955 - 1960 (the beginning date is less certain), although at some point (probably the early 1970's) it began to feature a mixture of mostly old cartoons with a few new ones, and the old pin-up photos were replaced by new ones with greater nudity.

Snafu was reputed to have been a publication intended for the military, but is now known to have been a humor magazine edited by Stan Lee. It apparently ran from 1955 to 1956, so it seems unlikely that it was intended to compete with MAD. Three cover scans exist, but we have never run across an actual issue. Because it was published during the time the "modern" spanking cartoon was developing at Humorama, the question naturally arises as to whether any "spankers" appeared in Snafu - a question we hope to be able to answer some day.

Like Wink, Whiz-Bang was a revival of an earlier title. It had been known as Capt. Billy's Whiz-Bang and was considered rather risqué back in its day (1920's, even before Robert E. Harrison's stuff). This little magazine became the foundation of Fawcett Publications, which continued until the end of the Golden Age of Comics in 1956. We have never seen any spankings in either the old or new versions. Only one issue from Humorama is positively known or even suspected to exist (Feb. 1954), and it is shown below.

Wink was a revival of one of Robert E. Harrison's girlie mags of the '40's. Because titles cannot in general be copyrighted, Humorama probably just took it over because it wasn't being used any more. Only one issue is positively known to exist (June 1972). It was discovered by Steve W.
