Deacon Sematones is an artist we've run into somewhere before - exactly where we're not sure - but this is the first and so far the only spanking cartoon of his we've seen. It was found by Andre at SPK in Sex to Sexty #20 and its gag takes Homer Provence one step further: where Provence started with the Humorama "spanker" featuring a guy who obviously enjoyed spanking a woman and expanded it to allow the woman to enjoy it also, Sematones gives us a wife who's into it while her husband isn't. Another way to look at this is to consider it the opposite of a typical Dan DeCarlo cartoon in which the boss clearly enjoys spanking his none-too-happy secretary. With DeCarlo, the spankee's discomfiture is always part of the humor; with Sematones here the humor is based around the husband's dislike of having to perform his disciplinary duties. The OTK position is perfunctory and backwards (Thelma's husband is using the wrong hand, that familiar error), and the anatomy is unrealistic, but Sematones is at least a decent caricaturist who conveys Thelma's rapture even though there's no way she could twist her head like that. He also uses a nice long line to delineate her bare buttocks, so overall this is a reasonably good spanking cartoon. |
