The Comic Strip Series continues with the conclusion of our mini-series on the British strip The Gambols: Gaye gets spanked (at least in her husband's imagination) for spending too much money on a dress .

There was another spanking in the strip, but it was Gaye spanking her nephew so we won't be seeing it. I will put it in the data base shortly when I make sure the other four are in as well.

Next week we go back to Snuffy Smith to see the spanking that Sweetspot discovered (and we've already seen on this forum). Because this material is not strictly speaking new even though it needs to be placed in Comics Gallery 2, I will also present the second part of my Tribute to Bending Over.

No time for anything else right now, but at least I got this update done ahead of time.

Since we've already seen the Snuffy Smith spanking (Phil S. put it in this forum), I wanted to present something else as well. Fortunately, Part 2 of our Tribute to Bending Over was ready, so here it is. No Benny Hill this time, but I did have something saved up from Mad Men and I also included a lengthy scene that was followed by an actual paddling with a fine rear view.

I'm going to try to get through all of CSR Chief Strip Researcher Phil S.'s contributions before going to the remaining odds and ends. And while I've mapped out the updates for Super-Spanking Summer (coming June 7) I don't have everything worked out for the Comic Strip Series, which I hope to continue without a break. Next week we'll be returning to Dixie Dugan Spanking #2 with new Sweetspot scans.

Opened the mailbox for the first time in six weeks last night. What a mess! Said hello to Doctor Cylon, who probably thought I'd died. The Comic Strip Series continues with a return to Dixie Dugan Spanking #2 long enough to look at some new Sweetspot scans.

I'm not usually a fan of father/daughter spankings, but the woman clearly deserved it. (I would've rather seen her spanked by her husband, or Dixie's boyfriend... or maybe both!)

Big thanks to Sweetspot for providing some better scans of those panels and a bit of context for Brenda's spanking.

We have mixed feelings about off-stage spankings. Technically, we refuse to count them as real spankings, and don't put them into the Comics Spanking Data Base. We also always feel somewhat cheated, for although there can be legitimate dramatic reasons for showing us the reactions of people outside the room where the spanking is taking place, there isn't any good reason not to show the spanking itself. Take an extra panel or two, for goodness sake, and show us the spanking! (The same applies to off-camera movie spankings).

I agree. The cut to the party and the reaction of the guests is funny, but I wish the artist would've provided us with at least one panel of the spanking in progress. (And I hope he moved that ruffle on the back of her dress when he did it!)

One other thing. Does anyone else think the father looked a bit like Colonel Sanders? Maybe the reason he was reluctant to spank his daughter earlier was that he was "chicken!"

Next Week: Yet another Sweetspot discovery with Mamie, a strip I think it's fair to say most of us never even heard of. She gets turned OTK next week, thus becoming another heroine spanked in her own strip, so let's take a quick look at her now to whet our appetites. I located this panel of Mamie touching her toes (unfortunately no one was applying a paddle ) on a site selling original art. The resolution is very low - one hopes they use a higher resolution when actually selling their art.



And in two weeks, we begin Super-Spanking Summer! Yes, it's that time of year again when super-heroines and villainesses alike are in danger of getting what they all need and deserve! What I don't know yet is if I can keep doing the Comic Strip Series at the same time, which would be my preference. Right now, I plan to do the week's update first and then try to get through the mail, because it just isn't funny any more to have so much piled up. But I don't want to put the strips on hiatus, either - we'll just have to see how much I can manage. More on SSS next week.

My father used to talk about his grandmother whose name was "Mamie." From reading some of her family's history it seems her real name was Margaret but she had an older cousin named Margaret and they married brothers, so my Great Gran was called Mamie to avoid confusion.

Although I'm not a big fan of F/F spankings, it sure seems like the naughty spankee deserved to be punished, and she certainly had a nicely-curved target for that yardstick!

Creator Russell Stamm was a decent artist who generally drew a pretty Scarlet, and he was not averse to spankings (a big point in his favor laughing face), so why no spankings for Scarlet (as far as we know)? It's rare (but not unheard of) for a heroine to be spanked in her own strip - we've seen it in Dixie Dugan and Brenda Starr - but it may be that Stamm, whose stories are far more gentle than those of the more violent crime comics of this era, simply saw Scarlet as a good girl who didn't deserve to be spanked.

Too bad! It would've been nice to see Scarlet do something just a little bit naughty, like maybe taking advantage of her invisibility to play a prank on her boyfriend!

Well, this last week of May has sure gone quickly, hasn't it? I had actually been ahead on the updates, but I just got this one done about a day ago. And the last two emails I worked on took me an hour to address. This is a continuing problem, and although I've gone through this many times, I'd like to explain why the situation is so critical.

First, although under-employed (I work for myself - great boss but he doesn't pay $hit ) I work long hours and don't have much time for other things.

Second, although life is hard for everyone, not everyone is as overloaded as I am. I've got elderly relatives to care for, and my life basically consists of running around putting out fires, never able to get to anything before crisis stage, and then trying to stay awake late at night doing CSR work when I'm too tired to accomplish anything else.

Then there's the fact that the sheer size of CSR makes the updates difficult now. Not technically, but the research. For example, this week I had to research Mamie, a strip I hadn't heard of. Not only did I have to dig up the history of a strip so obscure even the encyclopedic Don Markstein's Toonopedia didn't have an entry for it, I also had to check both the main site and this board for references. That's 1500 web pages on the main site and 13,000 posts here! To my surprise, I found one about the strip's creator Russell Patterson that I myself was responsible for a couple of years ago when Phil S. and I had just started doing the Comic Strip Series!

That's why the Series, although not yet concluded, is only going to be presented on a hit-or-miss basis until fall. I've got the Super-Spanking Summer updates all mapped out (more on that next week) and I think they need to come first, and while I very much would like to make two updates per week our normal output, I doubt that I can make it happen, especially when there is some super-heroine stuff by Doctor Cylon that should take priority (during the summer) should I be able to manage a second update. Nonetheless, if I can do more, I will. As for The Aces Artist, our last planned special of this anniversary year, that will have to wait until fall.
