I'm not too familiar with the original strip, or the movies that were (sort of) based on it. I think maybe my hometown newspaper may have run it for a short time... not long enough for me to become interested in the characters.

And thanks for the bare-bottomed shot of Modesty - she should have been spanked for parading around like that! I suppose I must have a number of her strips from The Menominee Falls Gazette (when it was contained in The Comics Reader), but I can't get my hands on them easily just now and I'm sure there were no spankings, although I do remember some topless shots.

Yes, I found the movie in my research, although not really being that much of a film buff I'd never seen it. No spankings in it have been reported. Bogarde was in interesting actor, and I believe Terence Stamp played General Zod in one of the Superman films.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! If you're feeling weighed down by that turkey dinner, this week's update should lighten things up: The Comic Strip Series continues with the fourth spanking from Polly and Her Pals - new discovery from Andre!

In going through all of Andre's strip discoveries, I found quite a few that won't be posted in CSR, mainly because they involved children. They did need to be added to the Comic Spankings Data Base however, and except for the Superman one that has now been accomplished. For the curious, here is the list:

1. Captain Easy – Ben Barton spanks his spoiled son instead of his socialite wife.
2. Freckles and His Friends 04-16-1925, NEA Service – M/M OTK Hand Father/Tas spanked for playing with shaving cream.
3. Freckles and His Friends 09-03-1938 – M/M OTK Hand camp counselor Freckles spanks spoiled Bradford who’s been playing pranks on him.
4. Freckles and His Friends 06-04-1924 - M/M OTK Hand. Freckles spanks another kid – yeesh!
5. Fritzi Ritz 11-14-1935 United Feature Syndicate – F/M OTK hand. Fritzi wants to spank Hamilton but is afraid of losing her job, so she pretends she’s dusting off the seat of his trousers while spanking him. By Ernie Bushmiller.
6. Gasoline Alley 01-03-1937 Chicago Tribune Syndicate. M/M Gang / Skeezix, kneeling ski. Skeezix gets paddled by the guys using skiis.
7. Mandrake 11-24-1935 King Features Syndicate. F/M Mother / Taro OTK Hand. Mother spanks Taro for wandering off into the woods, where this time he was saved from danger by Mandrake.
8. Mandrake 01-09-1937. M/M Lothar/Andy OTK Hand. Lothar spanks Andy the Neanderthal man. Horrible!
9. Mandrake 04-18-1938. Mother/Sonny, OTK, Hand. Sonny the spoiled child movie star asks Mandrake what he needs most to improve his career, and Mandrake causes the spanking image to appear.
10. Mandrake 09-26-1956. In the year 52,000 AD Jonny X197C uses a forbidden time machine to bring Mandrake & friends there from the past. A public spanking – the first in 200 years - is the penalty.
11. Superman (strip) 1943. Lois spanks her niece Susie for pushing Clark out the window to see if he was Superman. Lois should have been spanked for trying similar schemes herself. Siegel and Shuster.

Some observations:

1. Freckles spent too much time spanking boys and not near enough spanking girls! That's the kind of thing that could have seriously warped him, and perhaps it did.
2. Mandrake gave us two fine spankings (both M/F) but he also blew a lot of good opportunities for more. A futuristic public spanking - and it's M/M? What were they thinking?
3. The Superman Lois/Susie spanking panel has been seen around the 'net for years, but I believe Andre was the first to at least identify the year as 1943.
4. I've never understood why Skeezix is almost always the spankee in Gasoline Alley. There were plenty of female characters, but so far we have only one M/F spanking from the strip. Still, it ran for so many years (from 1918 or 1919) there could still be something out there, but spanking doesn't seem to have been uppermost on Frank King's mind.

Next Week: We go back a long way to a feature called Toonerville, and we might also get to that fiction from Gesperax we didn't post this week.

Judging this one by Dave Wolfe's "hilarity + horniness" scale, it wouldn't rank very high for horniness, since the spankee isn't pretty by any means... but it makes up for that with its hilarity. It's funny and the characters look goofy.

I like the idea of a mother being spanked for her daughter's naughtiness... Hmmmmm! Maybe I can do some kind of rip-off... excuse me... an homage... with Katie getting spanked for something Kaylyn did. I'm not sure what specific infraction would be involved... but it's a possibility!

I sympathize with your frustration with your searches. I didn't realize there were so many M/M and F/M spankings out there... but I guess that's because whenever I see one, I try to ignore it. Sad!

Yeah - as Butch pointed out also she has no bottom, and as b00m says that means no "horniness" on the Dave Wolfe scale. While erotic spankings are likely to remain everyone's favorites, the sheer amount of humorous material in the comics medium - and it is called "comics" after all - means that a goodly amount of its spankings will be of the humorous variety. Strips like Polly and Her Pals or Popeye, which rely on humorous caricature visually, are never going to have sexy spankings in them.

On the other hand, I've recently acquired one or two foreign comics of an unsophisticated T&A nature that do have sexy spankings in them. At CSR, we feature both types of spankings, albeit very slowly .

The Comic Strip Series continues with two and a half spankings from Toonerville Folks - new discovery from Pygmalion!

I'm not sure why, but I decided to put all of these on one page. They are pretty similar and certainly date themselves as being from the 1920s although I do not have the exact year. As I have come to expect from comic strip items, they demanded a lot of time researching and writing the copy. That's my excuse for not finishing the coding of Gesperax's latest fiction, which we'll probably see next week.

Unfortunately this one spanking is another clinker: PEP #51 (December 1944, Archie) – Captain Commando strip. M/M, OTK, Hand. Bagpipe-playing Sandy McGown spanks Brooklyn, one of the boy commandos, for trying to silence his bagpipe-playing.

It's good to see a few more Archie comics become available - I'm so tired of reading through nothing but Westerns! But instead of a nice M/F spanking, what do we find? One of the Boy Commandos getting spanked - yeucch!

I do have a few romance comics also, but it's still mostly Westerns, say 300 - 350 of them. I shall persevere.

Nice find this week. Again, lacking in the "horniness" part of Dave Wolfe's rating, but making up for it in the "hilarity" side. And they provide a window into the mores and political attitudes of the time.

Nice to see the Toonerville material. Familiar with the strip from old newspapers, have heard the expression Toonerville Trolley in relation to public transportation, and indeed trolleys were familiar to urban residents in era of that comic.
Only remember one spanking from my perusals and it was M/m(father and son) so don't suppose you will have it. Pretty fun though, father is paddling boy with a board, lots of pain stars, and a girl who is watching says that she stopped by to ask if boy wants to go horseback riding that afternoon but doesn't suppose he will!
Loved the flapper being spanked for wearing a dress that only came down to her knees. How times have changed! Love to see one where some 60s hippie chick gets spanked for her micro-mini. And the present time, guess it would be booty shorts or a thong bikini.
Recall seeing something in Chross's board some years ago, someone found a letter to a magazine written by a soldier right after World War II that tells of how he spanked his wife for stubbornly insisting in wearing a pair of very short shorts out in public.(Wearing short shorts back in those years might very well have meant a spanking!)And that he spanked her over them and noted a great imorovement in her behavior afterwards!

I see now that you did indeed, Phil. I'm glad you pointed it out because I hadn't even seen it, much less forgotten about it! I was wondering how Toonerville had evaded your searches and I see now that it didn't. It bothers me greatly that I haven't even been able to keep up with the posts on this board for about two years now, and I'll probably complain some more with this week's updates.

I loved your bending-over posts too, and will see if they can be added to some future special feature. Thanks for posting all of these!

Another very tough week for me, and on top of all my personal problems the Comic Strip Series placed more demands on me than usual as I was forced to research a couple of movies as well as the strip and code a second page in a different gallery yet. I don't think I remember putting so many links in one post before! This was because the films "Dear Ruth" and "Dear Brat" (especially the former) had already been discussed on The House of Richard Windsor, so I had links and a lot of quotes to deal with.

Anyway, you can see the comic strip version of the spanking at Seein' Stars, while the movies are discussed (with some nice photos from R. Windsor) at Dear Ruth.

In an earlier post I mentioned that I had not even seen Phil S.'s version of the Toonerville spanking, and this bothers me greatly. For the past two years, I simply haven't been able to give this board the time it deserves (apart from maintenance to keep it going, and I've got a problem there too because our web host is still using an older version of MySQL that prevents me from updating the Board's code and data bases). I think I read a few posts of Phil Overbarrel about three months ago, and since then - nothing!

On the mail front, I think I've downloaded all of Doctor Cylon's stuff, but again, for several weeks I just can't get to the box and still have time to do even one update. All I can say is I'm no happier about this than anyone trying to reach me, but there hasn't been anything I could do about it. I'm always burning the midnight oil as it is.

There is hope on the horizon, however: as gratifying as it has been, the Comic Strip Series has been horribly demanding. We're almost certainly going to be winding it up in January, and a new, easier-for-me (I hope) period in CSR's history will begin. What have I got in mind? You'll have to be here in January to find out! And it will probably be January before I get Gesperax's long-delayed fiction posted as well.

Wow - thanks so much, Phil! I of course hadn't seen these and had no idea that Miss Cam O'Flage had received so many additions turns over the knee. Margy was unknown to me but its style fairly shouts "1930s" (although Buda and Pesht were not separate cities in Hungary by that time despite the way they're spelled). I had seen the Joe Jinks one before and in fact I have a color version of it for the series finale.

Now my only problem is when and how to get your new discoveries into Comics Gallery #2. I suppose I should work on them during January and I need to count them up in the grand total of all the spankings you've contributed these past three years which I'd like to announce as the series concludes. We'll just have to see as the pressure is not letting up and now we've all got Christmas to deal with as well. I know I shouldn't make it sound like a burden, but it sure makes a lot of work for some of us.

I'm posting this week's updates, dated 12/20, on Tuesday night 12/17. The reason is simply this has been another horrible week for me and it's surely going to get worse. Therefore, rather than try to do this on Thursday or Friday in a barely-functioning state, I decided to do them tonight when I'm merely exhausted. Cuddles and Dimples didn't require that much time or research, so it wasn't too hard on me, and it's a decent spanking to boot so I think everyone will like it.

Next week we should have Cuddles and Dimples Spanking #2, although there's a chance I just won't be up to posting it in which case I will leave notice here so no one wonders what's going on.

I don't think I've missed an update in all these years (I may have been late a few times) and I'm hoping not to start next week, but I don't want to promise what I can't deliver (rules to live by). I hope no one worries too much - I'm not giving up CSR and there's nothing you can do to help anyway. - but I am very, very tired right now and I'm really not sure if I can work up the big finish to the Comic Strip Series and prepare for the New Year according to my planned schedule. We have this board now - I forgot to mention we passed its 10th anniversary in November - and if I can't get the updates done, I'll at least communicate with everybody using it, at least as long as I'm still here.

I'm not exactly in a humorous mood, but just for laughs, here's a link to what we had before this board - the old Letters Page - in case anyone is curious. I've left it out there all these past 10 years although I removed the link from the Main Page.

Wow! I really like this week's update! I had never heard of Cuddles and Dimples before. (I suppose, being a U.K. strip, it never made it to the newspapers around here.)

I wonder what side of the family those ugly little kids take after? Their mother looks too pretty to be related to them... and their father, although no "prince charming", doesn't look like he could produce such monstrosities! But clearly, Mumsie's inclusion in the regular cast gives the artist a chance to draw an attractive young woman. (Which he seems to enjoy doing!)

Of course it was the two brats who deserved to be punished, but I'm delighted that the father's boss decided instead to turn his employee's cute wife over his knee! Why is the boss's tongue hanging out though? Is he drooling at the sight of Mumsie's shapely bottom pointing up at him? Maybe.

Thanks for all your hard work. And if you miss next week's update... well, everyone needs a break now and then.
