I thought that the information presented with Smilin' Jack # 12 was really interesting. You know, I often re-use poses when I'm doing my toons but I never just totally repeat an entire toon. I guess the artist figured plenty of time had elapsed and everyone would have forgotten . I really like just about everything about the WW spanking. I do wish she had been wearing a skirt that was a color other than black but all the drawings are really wonderfully done and I like the story too . The artist also does a good job of indicating where she is going emotionally right from the start. He spanks her over her skirt and she offers no resistance. He raises her skirt and she still offers no resistance. She says "Hera help me" but still offers no resistance. She kicks, struggles and launches a shoe but still offers no real resistance . In the last panel, the artist brings her emotions to their logical conclusion not only with her thoughts but also with the hearts mixed in with the pain stars . BTW, I think the artist did a really excellent job of capturing the action of this spanking . Good updates . Thanks, Phil

Glad you liked the updates, Phil. You and B00m might be interested in knowing that David Marshall did the art the old-fashioned way: pen, brush, and ink on strathmore 500 Bristol Board, which gave it the feel of period comic books. No artist in the comics industry works that way any more, though, in this digital age.

• Super-Spanking Summer continues with the beginning of a three-part Big Barda mini-series as Barda Spanks Hakufu.
• I added one more of Phil S.'s scans to Smilin' Jack spanking #10 (Lone Jones / Cindy). How I managed to leave this one out not once but twice, the second time when I was correcting another omission, is anyone's guess. I believe you've all seen this scan anyway on this board because Phil posted it here, but if you're curious, you'll find it at the bottom of the page (no link here because I've reached the two-link limit already but you can find it in the Gallery 2 index).

Next Week:

• The Comic Strip Series continues with a return to Steve Canyon - new scan from Sweetspot.
• And Super-Spanking Summer concludes as we present the final two parts of our Big Barda mini-series in which Barda sees she's not too big to be spanked: she gets lashed by Lashina and then bends over to receive some good hard whacks from her husband, Mr. Miracle!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had started SSS with Big Barda, and all of you were too polite to tell me I was out of my tree ! I think(?) I imagined I had already posted the Barda/Hakufu spanking we're only getting to this week, although as to why I thought this I can only suggest I was literally falling asleep at my keyboard. Honestly, that's how overworked I am: I often barely avoid banging my head on the keyboard as I nod off while typing at all hours of the day and night, sometimes while working on CSR and sometimes not. Once or twice I've actually smacked the keyboard with my forehead, which may explain a few things.

Fortunately, I tend to double-check things with site searches (remember there's a handy-dandy Search Box on the Home Page that uses the Bing engine to search all of CSR including this board, and there's also a radio button to switch to searching the entire internet should you so desire), so I found no mention of Barda except here on the board and realized I'd goofed (first time ever ). I'll go back and make a note in that entry, but
the point here is that we're seeing Barda for the first time and I wasn't able to give too much background information. No matter: to make up for having no super-spanking two weeks ago, we're going to have not one but two features next week as Big Barda learns she's not too big for a spanking! (And CSR readers will learn another reason she's called Big Barda ).

The Big Barda spanking Hakufu is nice only I wish Hakufu had a little more rear to spank the atl is nice but Barda need to stop looking at the camera and tend to the business at hand Like the old West there should be more spanking in Jungle comics beautiful bratty women vs big strong men who knows how to handle them Tarzan don`t know why there wasn`t plenty of spankings in this comic or movies Jane could have use a few also some pretty Huntress also instead of dying by quick sand or animal attack and good over the knee spanking would have done justice! maybe if she continue being evil well bad thing should have come to her but a hard spanking on the seat of those tight pant or skirts they wore would be fine! What? they left the panel in the strip... but eliminated a few lines, changed a word in the narration, and said that the spanking never took place?

There have been instances of "aborted" spankings in movies and television, but when that happens, there's usually an interruption, or the potential spanker suddenly realizes that he has a reason for not following through. This alteration doesn't make sense.

It's a shame this is the only spanking Tarzan ever gave. With scantily-clad Jane, and all those naughty jungle girls, there should've been so much more! And now somebody wants to take that one away from us? Shame!

I liked the Tarzan spanking. I thought the spanking was well depicted and I have no clue about the revised version . What I really don't understand is that the revised version seems to have a date that is a year earlier than one that fully shows the spanking .

It's too bad Milton Caniff never did a decent M/F panel. The "public humiliation" angle is sort of interesting, but I would've much rather seen Steve spank the naughty princess.

I never heard of Barda until you posted her last week. I really appreciate your explanation of who she was. With her voluptuous shape and skimpy outfit, she presents a lovely target for spankings. Of course, given my preference for M/F spankings, I like the second one, the one with Mr. Miracle as the spanker.

However, I like the modified costume that Tim Phillips came up with for Lashina, and I wish that Mr. Miracle would show up with some other guy, (Maybe Orion) and both ladies would be subjected to spankings given by men!

Until yesterday my only experience with Big Barda was as a character on the D.C. Super Hero Girls cartoon. I like Tim Phillips style, I suppose because it stays fairly faithful to professional comic book art. Those good stories by the resident artists are also keeping my attention week to week

I'm looking forward to making further contributions to CSR over the next several months and beyond.

Yes, that's Oberon. Benny Hill did indeed have fun with that one. In one of his greatest skits, he played a BBC program director who is on the phone with a young writer named Will Shakespeare. It was terrific satire, not something Benny was really known for.

"What's her name? Titania. That figures. Will, Will - we don't want to do anything controversial..."

You can imagine what he did with Bottom.

Jack Kirby had the habit of taking names from the sources he was familiar with, whether those names really fit his modern usage or not. Although not really a good writer, Kirby was familiar with the classics, and mixed and matched at will. Thus the New Gods featured both Oberon, from the medieval period, and Orion, from Greek mythology, who had nothing whatever to do with one another. Not sure how Barda's bikini fits in there, but we won't worry about that too much...

Yes, it's a great pity that Caniff, "The Rembrandt of the Comic Strip" never did any good M/F spankings as far as is known.

I'm glad my explanation of Barda and the New Gods helped a little. It's been a long time since Kirby introduced these characters at DC, and although they have appeared more recently as part of DC's never-ending "Crisis" initiatives, which seem to confuse more than clarify, I knew that most readers would not be familiar with them.

I usually roll out the updates on Thursday night, but as I'm going to be on the road I decided to get them out now. This is the time of year I like to do a "Homecoming" edition with plenty of Archie and other young adult (high school) stuff, but even though I have some such material in the files I just wasn't up to it. I am still interrupting the ongoing Comic Strip Series, which returns next week, because it is so demanding and Doctor Cylon's material is generally much less work to present.

It was a fair amount of work this week, though, simply because I had so much in his files to go through to find a sort of one-off scene that wouldn't require a lot of explanation and that didn't have multiple variations, and because I had to identify the artist (or at least try to). I was pretty pleased with the results of "Route 69" and I hope you will be, too.

One more bit of accounting: the August monthly search report:

Yeah, it's another goose egg, and this is getting to be a bit of a conundrum. I have now searched what must be at least 200 romance comics (maybe more) which equates to 6000-8000 pages, and not one spanking Back in 2010, when I was searching 1000 pages per day for 300 days (a feat which I think I can claim without bragging will never be equalled in the future), a spanking would turn up every 1500 pages or so. Let's call it 2000 - I've still gone over three times that many with no spankings whatsoever! What gives?

Well, part of the problem is reprints. For the most part, I don't have time to document the details, but I'm sure I'm running into the same stories more than once. Obviously if the original didn't have a spanking, the reprint wouldn't either. What this shows is that a lot of titles went reprint in the 50's - it was a troubled time for comics, as I have detailed elsewhere.

Second, it may be the publishers I'm looking at right now, like Harvey. Maybe they hated spankings over there - only one is known, the indifferent one from Teen-Age Brides #1 / True Brides Experiences #16 which we saw years ago here on CSR. But I've been going over some Quality books as well, and Quality had a lot of spankings!

Or it could be the 1956-65 "Dead Zone" - except a lot of these books are from the early to middle 50's.

Whatever the problem, it won't stop me from continuing to go through the rest of these books (I've got about 500 to go).

I like that! Even without a spanking in progress, it's nice to see a pretty girl with a curvy bottom that someone has applied a bright red shade to! (Even though these symbols are supposed to be razzberrys, I'm using them to represent my tongue hanging out!)

After looking at the route 69 drawing all I can say is what's not to like . Pope did a wonderful drawing of a girl naked from the waist down with a really spankable bottom. I don't know what his intention was but it doesn't matter. Doc Cylon seems to have an eye for such drawings to color for us and he did his usual great job on this one . The end result looks for all the world like a naughty girl with a freshly spanked bottom who is waiting for her man to finish their re connection . I love it . Thanks, Phil
