Julius Zimmerman did quite a few drawings featuring Velma, including one in which she receives an incredibly hard whack on her behind with a ruler (CSR readers saw it way back in our early days in Doctor Cylon #5). It looks like she's going to get the ruler again here for getting an "F" on her paper despite bringing an apple for the teacher. Poor Velma! Bright as she is, she must have spent too much time investigating mysteries and too little time doing her college schoolwork, and now she awaits with apprehension the stroke of the ruler across her bare behind. Zimmerman called this one "Big Stick," and we'd guess she's really going to feel that big stick when it lands squarely on target!
Although adequate, this is hardly Zimmerman's best work, and the oversized boobs really do get in the way (in more ways than one). We might wonder why Doctor Cylon never got ahold of this one, and two reasons come to mind: (1) He never saw it, as we only discovered it in one place so it may be a rarely-seen work; or (2) it wasn't suitable for his purposes as the target area is not shown so no red coloring could be added there. Speaking of the coloring, we have no idea who did it here (Zimmerman drew in black & white, a fact that is easy to forget when you've been spoiled by seeing so much of his work being ably colored by the Good Doctor as we have). Velma's expression, described above, is probably the high point of this work.
