Our old friend and great helper Robin came up with a very unusual one here. It's from Buck Ryan, a strip we didn't recognize and for which Don Markstein's Toonopedia, an invaluable strip resource, had no entry. Fortunately we have other references at our disposal, and Maurice Horn's World Encylopedia of Comics had some information: Buck Ryan was a British strip, which explains why it was unknown to Don Markstein, and it ran from 1937 to 1962. It bears some resemblance to any number of American comics in the Detective genre although the immediate inspiration was Dick Tracy according to Denis Gifford.
Buck was an amateur sleuth, and like a lot of other amateurs and professionals in this occupation
ran up against at least one female spoiled brat, Gina Layton. As brats will do, she fails to
heed his warning and so winds up getting a seat-warming with a bath brush! Modified OTK positioning
with Buck's left leg locking Gina's thighs in position is employed and is generally o.k., but it
looks a little cramped because the spanking is taking place on a love seat (in a double-sense
). It has the usual effects: Gina gives in and can't
help being impressed by Ryan ("No man ever did that to me before!") while continuing to complain.
