The second butt-whacking from Lena Pry is a little better than the first. It resembles the one we saw a few months ago in Out Our Way in that a carpet beating becomes an impromptu spanking, although it's just low-level comedy here rather than being deliberately planned. Lena takes a couple of unfunny bad falls before unwisely bending over on the other side of a carpet she's instructed her maid to beat. The result is a foregone conclusion.

Some may object to the stereotyping of the black maid, but this was unexceptional for the time as anyone who has seen movies of the 30's and 40's will know. The character is not portrayed negatively, nor is she drawn in too exaggerated a manner compared to the way some black charactes were. Lena takes a pretty good swat, but says only "Heavenly days!"
Not a first-rate scene by any means as Lena is middle-aged and skinny and there is no OTK position, but on the other hand she does get a good solid whack with what we assume is a carpet-beater (you can't really see it).
