When we first came into possession of the third scan below, we couldn't escape the nagging feeling we should recognize something about it, but we didn't. We could see it had a lot of women spanking each other, but we had no notes explaining where we found it. Then just before we were ready to go live with it, we discovered two related items in our files that revealed a bit more about it. It seems that these separate pieces, although they were apparently scanned by different people, all came from Dollie's Dilemma, a bondage strip by an artist named Carlo.
The story seems to be that the villainous Madame Domina, with the aid of her French maid Mitzi (what is it about French maids that they always seem to turn up in these comics?) plots to kidnap our titular heroine Dollie to force her to reveal her scientist uncle's secret formula. After giving Dollie a rather inept, backhanded caning, Madame Domina has Mitzi haul poor Dollie off to the "Persuasion Chamber".

Mitzi and Madame Domina seem only to know interrogation techniques that use some form of spanking, which is o.k. with us but a little hard on Dollie's derriére. Here, Mitzi paddles Dollie, but have no fear: very soon it will be Mitzi's own French fanny that will be on the receiving end of the paddle.

So justice was done in (and on!) the end, namely the rear ends of Mitzi and Madame Domina. And after carefully looking it over once again, we finally recognized what we believe to be the influence of John Willie (at left), best known for the bondage adventures of Sweet Gwendoline. Our artist here, Carlo, certainly seems influenced by him although his art is much less polished, perhaps because Willie was so obviously into shiny leather and/or latex and needed those fine finishing effects to give such garments whatever erotic value they have for such people.
Willie may have had a thing for French maids, judging by the one at left taken from his Bizarre #11 (1952), and in this also he might have served as a model for Carlo. We're fine with French maids as long as they're bending over in their cute little outfits or being taken over someone's knee (see several Bill Ward Humorama cartoons, such as Flirting with the Chauffeur for the best examples of this type), but we never cared too much for Willie because he was so obviously into bondage and latex rather than spanking. Perhaps Carlo was more into spanking than Willie if the spanking elements from Dollie's Dilemma are any indication.
As to those elements in that last scene, it's a double-spanking with paddles and the spankee on the left in good OTK position. Also, three relief-spankers are poised to take over when the current one tire. On the minus side, Carlo draws very strange-looking panties and it's F/F. And we will wonder aloud for the umpteenth time why so many male artists draw F/F instead of M/F spankings.
