Eurotica, as the name suggests, published a series of erotic-themed graphic novels by European comics creators. (You can find them at Sexcomix.) Our attention is for the moment directed to one of them, Pinocchia, a take-off on the traditional tale of the old carpenter who carves a puppet and brings it to life. This time, the puppet is a beautiful young woman, Pinocchia, instead of the boy Pinocchio. Written by Francis Leroi and beautifully drawn by Jean-Pierre Gibrat, Pinocchia follows her adventures after being brought to life, which mostly involve her being taken advantage of sexually.

There are three spanking scenes, all of them well-drawn yet somehow unsatisfying, reminding us of Milo Manara's The Art of Spanking which we literally threw in the trash in our disappointment at the quality of the spankings. The first spanking here is a paddling that Pinocchia receives from the wife of a man who is - surprise! - taking advantage of her.

No doubt CSR readers remember that Pinocchio's nose grew longer every time he told a lie. Well, in Pinocchia's case, when she tells a lie it's her bosom that gets bigger! Even more interesting is how she gets back to normal size: by getting any form of spanking (except, strangely, a simple hand spanking OTK which never takes place in the story). This is a great concept, but the execution fails to live up to its promise: although Pinocchia is marvelously submissive, Gibrat doesn't seem to know how to draw a spanking for maximum erotic effect, probably because he isn't into it.
A long series of further misadventures brings Pinochhia back to her young lover, Lorenzo, whom she met earlier in the story. Alas, her lies have caused her to get an oversized bosom again, so she implores Lorenzo to do his manly duty and place his belt across her behind until she returns to normal. Emotionally this is the best of the three spankings, but even here the panels are small and the point of view is from Pinochhica's front rather than her side or rear. The best comic spankings are seen from the side or employ a three-quarters' view allowing us to savor the sight of the spankee's upturned fanny, and are shown in relatively large-size panels (think of Will Eisner's full-page cover showing the Spirit spanking Ellen Dolan). Gibrat is a good craftsman so his panels are certainly large enough to effectively tell the story, but they are not large enough to really savor what is transpiring within them.
It's another testament to the miracle of spanking when repeated applications of her lover Lorenzo's belt bring Pinocchia's bosom back to its normal size, and the two live happily ever after. Posted by the Web-Ed on 04/22/2022 (click to increase in size).
