#218 - Swimmers Butt-Whacking

After a five-year hiatus we resume The Humorama Series (its third go-around) with an early cartoon by Lowell Hoppes - "early" in the sense of just barely pre-dating the first OTK spankings in humor cartoons generally (Secretary Spanking A5 in 1954) and in Humorama specifically (Secretary Spanking #26 in July 1955). We have seen Hoppes twice before, once in this series (Humorama #111) and once in Humorama Spanking Positions, and this cartoon is similar to the earlier one in that it features a guy slapping as many butts as he can rather than taking a special someone OTK for a nice, long spanking session.

With neither the OTK position nor a particularly sexy style, this cannot be accounted a great spanking cartoon. And yet, it features genuine butt-whacking and represents a definite step on the path from various gags involving the female backside to the full-fledged spankings we referred to above - a path we will chronicle more fully in a future article on the develpment of the spanking cartoon.

One rather odd thing about it is that we found it in its first appearance in 1954 and do not recall ever seeing it reprinted in a later Humorama publication. Did something happen to the original in their files that prevented it from being reprinted, or was there perhaps some legal dispute between Hoppes and Humorama? Because we only document the "spankers" and not the other cartoons, we can't be sure but we think that we have seen some other Hoppes cartoons reprinted, so perhaps this one was simply lost in the obvious bustle and confusion of the Humorama office.
