We don't leave the television on when administering a spanking, but even if we did we wouldn't allow ourselves to become distracted by it the way this husband appears to have been. The pretty girl on screen needs less attention than the pretty bottom in front of him. We don't have the original caption, but that's what the gag must have been. Of course, at the time television was still a new invention - perhaps that was the inspiration for this cartoon.

George Morrice does a decent job on the OTK positioning and the wife's puzzled expression ("Why isn't he paying more attention to spanking me?").
