![]() Cartoon by "Dennis" from Hello Buddies #62 (August 1953). Discovered by the Web-Ed and posted on 10/06/2023 (click to increase in size). |
It goes without saying that a single butt-slap isn't as good as a full spanking, especially when it occurs out of our sight, but nonetheless we're going to continue our practice of bringing such scenes to light in this gallery if for no other reason than to outline the developments in humor cartoons that led ultimately to the full-fledged "spankers". The cartoonist here apparently signs himself "Dennis," and the year is 1953, one year before Keziah's "Fresh Fish Spanking" and what until recently was thought to be the earliest secretary spanking (the new "earliest" is from 1948, and we'll see it next in this gallery). It's a modest effort that reminds us stylistically of Mel Scott's Swat the Mosquito (Behind). In fact, "Swat the Fly (Behind)" is a sub-genre of the "Find a Flimsy Excuse to Swat the Behind" genre to which this cartoon belongs. We don't know if Dennis, whose signature seems vaguely familiar, was influenced by Scott. |
