We begin now a four-part mini-series on the British strip The Gambols, a husband-wife pair created by the husband-wife team of Barry and Dobs Appleby for the Daily Express in 1950. Originally a one-panel gag strip on the sports page, the Gambols (George and Gaye) were avid gamblers (hence their name) who regularly played the ponies. Eventually they settled down into more-or-less conventional domestic comedy, with the children's roles filled by a niece and nephew.

We can't accurately date this first episode but believe it came from the 1950s or early 1960s based on the length of Gaye's skirt. (She will later be spanked for wearing a too-short mini-skirt). The spanking here occurs off-panel behind a door, and is definitely a throwback to another era, namely the time when employers could spank female employees. We have seen too many examples of such spankings here at CSR to catalogue them, so let's just take a look at this one now:

It's always interesting to find a "behind the door" spanking scene, but of course they don't get into the
Comics Spanking Data Base
because there is no visual contact between a hand or hand-held implement and the buttocks. Still, they
can be fun and if they're well done we like to present them on CSR. The after-spanking panel here
is distinguished mainly by the large-sized pain stars radiating from Gaye's behind. She may think
twice before being so outspoken in the future.
