CSR readers were introduced to Patsy Walker, one of Marvel's longest running characters, in Hellcat Gets Caned, but that was in the Bronze Age after she had assumed the identity of Hellcat (this was all retconned later, but we'll ignore that). Patsy went back to comics' Golden Age, and we have seen one spanking in her teen-age humor title (of her arch-rival Hedy Wolfe) that occurred in Patsy Walker #5. There were, however, several more spankings in Patsy Walker, mostly off-panel but still interesting, and we'll have a mini-series of them now. Special thanks to Robin for bringing these to our attention.

The earliest of these occurred two issues before Hedy's spanking (#5) in issue #3 (February 1946). The main characters are Patsy, her friend Nancy Brown (our rather surprising spankee-to-be), and her boyfriend Buzz Baxter. Nancy, believing that Hedy has cheated in a radio contest, throws her to the ground with jiu-jitsu, silly as all that sounds. Let's pick up the story from there:

Nancy professes her admiration for Patsy and her detestation of exhibitionists.

Nancy does a "woman on the street" radio interview and is invited to compete in a quiz show but refuses to participate out of principle - or so it appears.

Nancy turns out to be something of a show-off after all, and Buzz and Patsy spank her for it!

The final panel shows Nancy in the classic "eating off the mantle because she can't sit down" position, and with a pillow strapped to her sore behind to boot! Of course this is all humorous shorthand of the period, and we spankos well know that the spankee should be able to sit down even after a good spanking but with, let us say, some little reminders of the experience in the form of residual soreness. Nancy's disclaimer notwithstanding, it's obvious that Buzz and Patsy spanked her - whether at the same time or sequentially is not stated, but it's sure an interesting question! Two spankers to one spankee is a rare sight in comic-book spankings, if not indeed elsewhere, with only the Captain Marvel-Mary Marvel/Krugg spanking readily coming to mind. (No link here but it's in Comics Gallery 2 and the Comics Spanking Data Base if you want to look it up). It's really too bad the spanking(s) were not shown, but they weren't necessary for the humor, such as it is. We note that the spanking is the climax of the story, as we have seen several times before.

Although the creative team here is not of supreme importance since the spanking is off-panel, we'll mention that it is believed Chris Rule did the pencils and George Klein the inks. Since Stan Lee had returned from serving in the U. S. Army in 1945, we believe he was the editor at this time and quite possibly the writer as well.
