Smilin' Jack Spanking #12

---> Comics Gallery 2

We come now to the second of the two new spankings in Smilin' Jack Sweetspot discovered. This one is very strange, being a retelling of the Jolly/Sulky spanking (#8) with Jolly's father Jack spanking a girl named Sizzle. Here is Sweetspot's account:
"This is the 1971-1972 remake of the Sulky / Jolly story from 1960 which included a spanking CSR refers to as Smilin' Jack #8. The newer story is almost identical to the older strips except in this instance we have a case of like son like father. I first discovered this series in January of 2017 but like the Bedouin shepherd who discovered The Dead Sea Scrolls I didn't know what I had. I thought it was a republishing of the 1960 strip but when I 'found' it again more recently I noticed the difference."

Why did Mosley re-use the story? We have no idea! We do know that Mosley was getting tired of doing the strip and retired, with the last installment being April 1, 1973. If he had to recycle his old plots, at least he used one with a spanking in it smiley face.

The 1971-72 scans are all by Sweetspot as edited by the Web-Ed. We have placed two of the corresponding older strips directly below their later counterparts and identified them as "Jolly/Sulky".

Notice that the date on top (circled by Sweetspot) suggests the archives were in error in assigning a date of Nov. 6, which fell on a Saturday that year, to the two scans above, as does Mosley's hand-written date of Nov. 7. It is however possible that the two papers ran what was supposed to be a Sunday strip a day early, while the Gazette-Telegraph ran it a day late. © News Syndicate Co. Inc.

Not long afterward came this reference to the spanking:
